Due to continued growth and an increasing workload, we are looking to expand our team and are seeking an experienced Small Works Fire Alarm Engineer to join us.

About You
You will ideally have:
- Previous experience within the fire alarm industry.
- A good working knowledge of fire alarm systems, relevant regulations and British Standards.
- Experience working with different fire alarm systems, such as Advanced, C\-TEC, Morley and similar systems.
- Notifier experience would be an advantage, although full in\-house training can be provided.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail and pride in the quality of your work.
- A willingness to learn, develop and grow with the company.
- The ability to work independently while also being a positive and supportive member of a small team.
- A professional attitude and the confidence to ask questions or seek assistance when required.
The role will primarily involve small works, fault finding and planned preventative maintenance (PPM) on fire alarm systems, together with limited emergency lighting duties where appropriately trained and authorised.
Fire alarm servicing and PPM is expected to account for approximately 30% of the role.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Carry out small works on fire alarm systems, including additions, alterations, device replacements, panel changes, cable installation and final connections, where competent and authorised.
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and servicing of fire alarm systems, expected to account for approximately 30% of the role. This will include routine inspection, functional testing, fault identification, investigation and reporting.
- Undertake limited emergency lighting duties where trained and authorised, including servicing support, operational checks, battery and lamp replacement, and replacement of fittings.
- Diagnose, investigate and rectify faults affecting fire alarm equipment, field devices, circuits, loops, power supplies and associated interfaces.
- Assist with commissioning and system verification, including sounder testing, device testing, cause\-and\-effect testing and other functional checks as required.
- Make recommendations for improvements to existing fire alarm systems where appropriate.
- Work safely at all times and comply with risk assessments, method statements, site rules, permit requirements and company health and safety procedures.
- Ensure all work is completed to a high standard, neatly and securely, in accordance with manufacturer instructions, company procedures, customer requirements and relevant British Standards.
- Accurately and promptly complete all required documentation, including job sheets, PPM records, emergency lighting service records, test sheets, certificates, photographs and handover documentation.
- Communicate professionally and effectively with customers, site contacts, colleagues and office staff, providing updates regarding progress, risks, delays, access issues and any additional works identified.
- Participate in the emergency on\-call rota on a 1\-in\-4 weekly basis, operating from Monday at 9:00am through to the following Monday at 5:00pm.
- Report defects, non\-compliances, safety concerns, access problems and any works falling outside the agreed scope to Rob, Laura or the nominated manager.
- Maintain a professional standard of conduct on customer premises, minimise disruption wherever possible and leave work areas clean, safe and tidy.
- Only undertake work within your level of competence, training and authorisation. Where a system is impaired or potentially unsafe, ensure the appropriate person is notified immediately and that the necessary actions are agreed and recorded.
The successful candidate should have a good understanding of:
- BS 5839\-1 – Fire detection and fire alarm systems.
- BS 5266 – Emergency lighting.
- Fire alarm inspection, testing, servicing and fault\-finding procedures.
- Fire alarm circuits, loops, field devices, power supplies and interfaces.
- Manufacturer requirements and system\-specific procedures.
On\-Call Requirement
The successful candidate will be required to participate in the company's emergency on\-call rota on a 1\-in\-4 basis.
The on\-call period will run from:
Monday 9:00am → following Monday 5:00pm
This will involve responding to emergency call\-outs, investigating faults and carrying out appropriate rectification works within the engineer's competence and authorisation.

Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8\-hour shift
Location: Field\-based / on the road
On\-call: 1 week in 4
