The Opportunity
UST is looking for an experienced Site Reliability Engineering Manager to lead a cross\-functional engineering team responsible for improving the reliability, scalability, performance and security of internally developed applications.
This is a hands\-on leadership opportunity for someone who combines strong software and systems engineering knowledge with the ability to develop people, manage technical priorities and promote Site Reliability Engineering practices across the wider business.
You will work closely with product, engineering and senior stakeholders to improve platform health, reduce operational overhead and build reliable services through observability, automation and continuous improvement.
- What You’ll Do
- Lead a cross\-functional group of engineers in applying Site Reliability Engineering principles to internally developed applications.
- Improve observability and service automation to reduce operational overhead.
- Identify development opportunities for engineers and support them in achieving their technical, business and personal goals.
- Troubleshoot architectural and technology challenges, guiding the team towards effective solutions.
- Define, implement and track Service Level Objectives to measure service availability.
- Collaborate with service, product and engineering communities to improve service performance.
- Partner with product and engineering managers to manage workload priorities.
- Oversee platforms that are performant, reliable, scalable and secure.
- Estimate, refine and prioritise the team’s workload within an agile environment.
- Drive continuous improvement across platform health, compliance and resilience.
- Create opportunities for innovation within the engineering team.
- Work with senior stakeholders to develop and strengthen Site Reliability Engineering practices across the business.
- Experience leading an engineering team and helping it deliver against business objectives.
- A strong background in software engineering, systems engineering and cloud architecture.
- Excellent knowledge of the software development lifecycle within cloud\-based environments.
- Strong knowledge of developing and managing RESTful API services using a modern object\-oriented language, such as Java or .NET.
- The technical aptitude to understand and troubleshoot complex distributed systems.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to build effective partnerships across engineering teams.
- An understanding of inner\-source collaboration and how it can improve reuse and reduce duplicated effort.
- Proven workload management, prioritisation and organisational skills within an agile environment.
- Excellent interpersonal and stakeholder\-management capabilities.
- Experience working with multi\-vendor technical and business teams.
- A self\-motivated, hands\-on approach to both engineering and people management.
- Previous experience leading a Site Reliability Engineering team.
- Previous hands\-on experience in a software development role
