Hays Civil Engineering are working with a well-established specialist contractor that delivers complex underground infrastructure schemes across the UK. With a strong order book and a reputation for delivering technically challenging projects, they are seeking an experienced Site Manager to oversee works on a range of trenchless, tunnelling and shaft construction schemes nationwide. The company delivers projects across the water, highways, rail and wider infrastructure sectors using specialist techniques including pipe jacking, shaft sinking, microtunnelling and other trenchless solutions.

This is a contracting role suited to someone who enjoys working on interesting engineering challenges and is comfortable travelling between sites as projects progress.

What you'll be doing

  • Managing day-to-day site operations on specialist civil engineering and tunnelling projects

  • Leading site teams and subcontractors to deliver works safely and efficiently

  • Ensuring compliance with health, safety, environmental and quality standards

  • Coordinating site activities, materials, plant and labour resources

  • Working closely with Project Managers, Engineers and commercial teams

  • Producing site documentation including RAMS, site reports and progress updates

  • Managing client and stakeholder relationships on site

  • Ensuring works are delivered in line with programme and contract requirements

What we're looking for
  • Proven experience as a Site Manager within civil engineering, utilities, water, rail or infrastructure projects

  • Experience delivering underground works, shafts, tunnelling, pipe jacking, microtunnelling, deep drainage or similar activities would be highly beneficial

  • Strong understanding of health and safety legislation and site management responsibilities

  • SMSTS, CSCS and First Aid qualifications

  • Ability to manage subcontractors and site teams in challenging environments

  • Good communication and reporting skills

  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel nationwide
