General Manager – Alfie’s Deli, Gainsborough

Location: Alfie’s Deli, 2 Market Place, Gainsborough, DN21 2BY
Salary: From £31k per year \+ General Manager bonus scheme
Hours: Full\-time, 42 hours per week, working 5 days between 7:30 AM – 4:30 PM, including weekends on a rotational basis. As General Manager, you may be required to work additional hours from time to time to suit the needs of the business. Flexibility is essential to ensure we are always adequately staffed.

The Role
As General Manager, you will play a pivotal role in running the day\-to\-day operations of the deli, leading by example and ensuring that both our team and business thrive. We are looking for someone with a firm but fair leadership style, a structured and process\-driven approach, yet adaptable enough to support the business as it evolves.
You will have the flexibility to bring new ideas forward while working closely with the owner on key business decisions. Your focus will be on maintaining excellent customer service, team morale, and operational efficiency. You will also inherit a fantastic shop supervisor and a dedicated team of staff, working collaboratively to maintain a positive and successful work environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leading and managing a small team, ensuring smooth daily operations

  • Providing hands\-on support, including food preparation, customer service, and maintaining high cleanliness and hygiene standards

  • Overseeing stock control, stock ordering, and waste management

  • Handling cash, cashing up, and ensuring financial accuracy

  • Supporting and working alongside the shop supervisor to create and manage staff rotas

  • Controlling staff costs and ensuring efficient workforce management

  • Assisting in the hiring process, staff training, and disciplinary procedures

  • Running team meetings and one\-on\-one staff meetings as needed

  • Monitoring and implementing food safety and hygiene regulations

  • Driving sales and implementing promotions, with the freedom to introduce new menu specials (pricing to be agreed with the owner)

  • Keeping up with sector trends and proactively suggesting new business ideas

  • Assisting with social media, including capturing photos and engaging with customers online
What We’re Looking For
At least 2 years of management experience in a similar food retail setting
  • Strong leadership skills with a hands\-on approach, leading by example

  • A firm but fair management style, focusing on team results and morale

  • Process\-driven yet adaptable to the needs of a growing business

  • A passion for high\-quality food, customer service, and team development

  • Experience in stock control, waste management, and cost control

  • Knowledge of food safety and hygiene regulations is essential

  • A proactive mindset, bringing fresh ideas to increase sales and efficiency

  • Strong customer service skills, ensuring a welcoming and engaging atmosphere

  • Basic understanding of social media and willingness to contribute to content creation and customer engagement
