Senior Sprinkler Maintenance Engineer
London based but involves nationwide travel
About the role
We're looking for an experienced Senior Sprinkler Maintenance Engineer who's as comfortable developing people as they are diagnosing systems. Alongside carrying out planned servicing, testing and remedial works across a varied portfolio of fixed fire suppression systems, you'll take a leading role in mentoring and supporting our less experienced engineers — helping them build the technical knowledge, judgement and confidence to deliver work to the standard our clients expect.
This is a genuine opportunity to shape how our maintenance team grows, with the backing of our administration and cost\-planning team behind you.
Developing the team
This sits at the heart of the role. You'll:
- Work alongside junior and developing engineers in the field, demonstrating correct servicing, testing and fault\-diagnosis technique
- Be the first point of contact when a less experienced engineer hits something unfamiliar on site
- Help structure on\-the\-job learning so engineers progress through tasks in a sensible, safe order
- Carry out informal competency checks and feed back constructively on workmanship and reporting
- Share knowledge of standards (BS EN 12845, LPC Rules, BS9251 and BS 9990\) in a way that builds genuine understanding, not just box\-ticking
- Help identify training needs and support engineers working towards industry qualifications
- Service and maintain automatic sprinkler systems in line with BS EN 12845, BS9251 and LPC Sprinkler Rules
- Test and maintain dry and wet riser systems to BS 9990
- Carry out pump tests, valve and alarm tests, flow tests and full system inspections
- Diagnose faults accurately and scope remedial works clearly enough for quoting and client sign\-off
- Complete service documentation and reports to a professional standard via our job management system
- Liaise directly with clients, building managers and on\-site staff in a professional manner
- Work safely in line with risk assessments, method statements and relevant H\&S legislation
Essential:
- Demonstrable experience servicing and maintaining automatic sprinkler systems
- Sound working knowledge of BS EN 12845, BS9251, LPC Rules and BS 9990
- Confident in fault diagnosis and identifying remedial requirements
- A genuine willingness to teach, explain and support less experienced colleagues
- Patience and clear communication — able to break down technical work for someone learning it
- Strong written and verbal communication for reports and client contact
- Full UK driving licence and right to work in the UK
- LPCB / FHC or relevant industry sprinkler qualifications
- Previous experience mentoring, supervising or training engineers
- Dry riser and wet riser testing experience
- IPAF / PASMA, asbestos awareness, CSCS
- Highly competitive salary, reviewed regularly
- Company van and fuel card
- Pension / holiday / overtime / other benefits
- Ongoing training and professional development
- The chance to genuinely shape and develop a growing team
Benefits:
- Company car
- Company pension
