Job overview

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Senior Sister/Ward Manager to lead and manage Alex Ward, a Elective Surgical ward and Admissions on the Day, as part of secondment cover for up to 12 months. The successful candidate will be responsible for the overall clinical and operational management of both areas, ensuring high standards of patient care, effective team leadership, and efficient resource utilization.

Alex Ward is a 20 bedded Elective Ward with 4 Post Operative Care Unit (POCU) bed, specialising in General Surgery, Urology, Colorectal, ENT/Dental and Upper GI, Gynaecology, Breast and Orthopaedics. An Admission on the Day (AOD) Unit is also co\-located.

This is a key leadership role in which you will be expected to manage, support, and develop nursing staff, while ensuring that both Alex Ward and the Admission on the Day meet all quality and safety standards.

Main duties of the job

You will need good leadership and clinical judgement skills, as well as being an excellent communicator, motivator and team player. We are looking for a leader who is accountable and visible and who will work alongside the surgical wards to maintain a culture that supports our trust values.

You will need to expect and maintain high standards of care, quality and patient safety to ensure best outcomes for patients.

The individual must be able to work effectively and it is essential to have the ability for problem solving while working under pressure. You will be involved in supporting your team with debriefing sessions.
