Senior Sales Manager – Eastern Europe & Central Asia

Salary: £72,000 Basic \+ Commission
We are working with a leading international academic and STM publisher to recruit an experienced Sales Manager for Eastern Europe \& Central Asia.
This is a newly created position offering the opportunity to build and develop the organisation’s commercial presence across Eastern Europe, the Balkans and Central Asia. Rather than simply managing an established territory, the successful candidate will identify new markets, create opportunities and establish strategic relationships with universities, research organisations, national library consortia and government stakeholders.
Working closely with senior commercial leadership, you will help shape regional strategy and negotiate subscription, Open Access and transformative publishing agreements across markets with significant growth potential.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute the sales strategy across Eastern Europe, the Balkans and Central Asia.
- Build a strong pipeline of institutional, consortium and national\-level opportunities.
- Identify and prioritise new markets based on commercial potential.
- Develop territory and market\-entry plans to support long\-term growth.
- Lead negotiations for subscription, Read \& Publish and transformative agreements with universities, research institutions and national library consortia.
- Build trusted relationships with senior stakeholders across government, research and higher education.
- Develop commercial proposals and pricing within agreed frameworks.
- Represent the organisation at regional conferences, consortium meetings and industry events.
- Monitor competitor activity, procurement developments and market trends to inform commercial strategy.
- Maintain accurate forecasting, pipeline management and reporting through Salesforce.
You will be an experienced institutional sales professional with a strong background in academic, scholarly or STM publishing, ideally with experience developing business across emerging or developing markets.
You should be comfortable operating independently across multiple countries, identifying new commercial opportunities and negotiating complex agreements with senior decision\-makers.
Ideally, you will bring experience of:
- Institutional or library sales within academic/STM publishing
- Read \& Publish, Open Access or transformative agreements
- Working with library consortia and public procurement processes
- New market development and territory expansion
- Strategic account management
- Complex commercial negotiations
- Building relationships with senior institutional and government stakeholders
- CRM\-based pipeline and forecasting management
- Fluent English; additional Eastern European language skills would be highly advantageous.
