Senior Python Developer – Telecom / Network Automation

Location: London/Ipswich, UK
Job Type: Permanent

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Senior Python Developer to join a technology team working on advanced telecom and network\-related platforms.

This role is ideal for a hands\-on Python engineer with experience in backend development, automation, distributed systems and event\-driven architectures. You will work on the development, integration and support of scalable applications and automation solutions within a telecom environment.

Candidates with experience in 4G/5G, telecom platforms, network functions, NFV, VNF, network automation or messaging systems will be particularly relevant.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop and maintain high\-quality Python applications and backend services.

  • Build and enhance REST APIs and microservices.

  • Develop automation solutions for telecom and network\-related platforms.

  • Work with distributed and event\-driven architectures.

  • Develop asynchronous and message\-driven applications.

  • Support integration, troubleshooting and performance optimisation of production systems.

  • Work with Docker and Kubernetes\-based environments.

  • Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines and automated deployment processes.

  • Collaborate with software engineers, infrastructure teams, architects and telecom specialists.

  • Write clean, maintainable and well\-tested code.

  • Participate in technical design discussions and contribute to engineering best practices.
Essential Skills \& Experience
  • Strong commercial experience in Python development.

  • Experience with backend frameworks such as FastAPI, Django or Flask.

  • Strong experience developing REST APIs.

  • Experience working with distributed and scalable backend systems.

  • Understanding of event\-driven and asynchronous architectures.

  • Experience with messaging technologies such as RabbitMQ, Kafka, Celery, Redis or similar.

  • Strong Linux and Bash/shell scripting experience.

  • Hands\-on experience with Docker and containerised applications.

  • Exposure to Kubernetes.

  • Experience with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, GitLab CI, Bitbucket Pipelines or GitHub Actions.

  • Experience with automated testing frameworks, ideally PyTest.

  • Good understanding of SQL and/or NoSQL databases.

  • Experience troubleshooting and supporting production applications.
Telecom / Domain Experience

We are particularly interested in candidates with experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • Telecommunications

  • 4G / LTE / 5G technologies

  • Telecom network platforms

  • Network automation

  • NFV / VNF

  • 5G IMS

  • Telecom orchestration

  • SIP or other telecom protocols

  • Mobile messaging platforms

  • Network functions or distributed network systems
Desirable Skills
  • AWS or other cloud platform experience.

  • Kubernetes production experience.

  • Infrastructure\-as\-Code experience.

  • Experience with Terraform.

  • Experience with high\-volume messaging or event\-processing systems.

  • Experience with TCP/IP, DNS and networking concepts.

  • OpenStack exposure.

  • Experience working with Ericsson, Nokia or other telecom technology environments.
What We Are Looking For

We are looking for a technically strong and hands\-on engineer who enjoys solving complex problems and working across backend development, automation and production systems.

You do not need to be a pure network engineer, but experience working within a telecom, networking or network\-function environment would be highly advantageous.

Pay: £70,000\.00\-£85,000\.00 per year

Work Location: Hybrid remote in London
