About the Role
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join a dynamic and growing building services consultancy in central Birmingham. This is a senior\-level position offering genuine involvement in technically varied and high\-profile projects across multiple sectors.
You will be responsible for leading the mechanical design of building services schemes from feasibility and concept through to detailed design, specification, and construction support. The role demands both technical depth and client\-facing confidence, and offers scope for progression within a collaborative, ambitious team.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the mechanical design of building services installations across a variety of project types and sectors
- Produce detailed design drawings using AutoCAD and Revit (BIM)
- Carry out and check engineering calculations using Excel and relevant software
- Prepare specifications, design reports, and technical submissions
- Manage projects through RIBA stages, coordinating with clients, architects, and contractors
- Attend design team and client meetings; provide technical advice and design leadership
- Mentor junior engineers and support their development
- Ensure designs comply with current UK Building Regulations, CIBSE guidance, and relevant British Standards
- Contribute to sustainable, energy\-efficient design solutions

Requirements
- Minimum 5 years' UK\-based building services design experience
- Strong mechanical design background (HVAC, pipework systems, plant selection)
- Proficient in AutoCAD and Revit; confident using Excel for engineering calculations
- Solid understanding of UK Building Regulations and CIBSE guidance
- Experience across multiple building sectors
- Strong communication and report\-writing skills
- Degree or HNC/HND in Building Services Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline
- Working towards or holding Chartered Engineer status (IMechE / CIBSE) desirable
- Salary up to £65,000 depending on experience
