Consortium X is recruiting a Senior Materials and Manufacturing Engineer with a specialist in ferrous metals to support a strategic UK defence programme. The role provides senior technical input across materials manufacturing standards, production assurance and experimental test planning, working alongside UK and international engineering partners on a multi\-year capability programme.
This is a senior, high\-visibility role suited to a metallurgist or manufacturing engineer with deep ferrous metals credentials and hands\-on understanding of heavy plate production methods. Candidates from heavy industry backgrounds (steelmaking, structural fabrication, pressure vessel manufacture, shipbuilding, civil nuclear) are strongly encouraged; defence sector experience is helpful but not essential.
What You'll Be Doing
- Providing senior materials and manufacturing engineering input across the programme, with a focus on ferrous metals.
- Advising on production methods for heavy plate, including ingot and continuous casting (concast) processes.
- Supporting auditing activity and assurance against materials specifications and standards.
- Reviewing and contributing to experimental test plans, including production, delivery and post\-test assessment.
- Engaging with multidisciplinary stakeholders across UK and international partners on a tri\-lateral programme.
- Operating within a senior engineering function with direct visibility to programme leadership.
- Senior\-level materials or manufacturing engineering experience with a specialism in ferrous metals.
- Demonstrable understanding of heavy plate production methods. Industry background is open, but ingot and continuous casting (concast) experience is highly desirable.
- Experience of auditing processes and assurance against materials specifications and standards.
- Experience in the delivery, production and/or review of experimental test plans.
- Active UK Security Clearance (SC).
- Sole UK national status.
- Willingness to attend a Bristol\-based delivery site three days per week.
- Flexibility to work occasional out\-of\-hours periods to support international time zones.
- Civil nuclear, marine, structural or pressure vessel manufacturing background.
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) status with IOM3, IMechE or equivalent professional institution.
- Previous embedded experience within a UK defence delivery hub.
- Experience contributing to long\-running international engineering programmes.
- Senior role on a strategically significant UK defence capability programme with sustained multi\-year runway.
- Hybrid working from a Bristol\-based delivery hub.
