Senior Electrical Engineer
Pyroban is part of the Cognesense group, delivering industry‑leading explosion protection solutions for equipment operating in hazardous areas, such as oil and gas, chemical and manufacturing sectors, converting forklifts, mobile plant and diesel engines to meet ATEX and IECEx standards while integrating advanced gas detection and engine safety technologies.
We are seeking a Senior Electrical Design Engineer to join our specialist engineering team to convert equipment in material‑handling and power‑systems products.
As a Senior Electrical Design Engineer, you’ll develop compliant solutions for Zone 1, Zone 2, Zone 21 and Zone 22 applications, working to ATEX and IECEx standards across bespoke customer projects and new product development.
What you’ll do as a Senior Electrical Design Engineer
- Hazardous‑area assessment Define protection concepts for gas and dust zones.
- Engine control integration Assess diesel engine control systems and integrate hazardous‑area protection systems for onshore/offshore use.
- Component selection Select and integrate components into original machine electrical systems.
- Pyroban gas detection Apply and configure Pyroban detection systems.
- Customer specification work Collaborate with sales to develop and review customer requirements.
- Technical documentation Produce project specs, design documents, certification support, and risk assessments.
- AutoCAD Electrical design Create electrical drawings for vehicle functionality, engine control and legislative compliance.
- Packaging \& layout design Design components for tight‑space vehicle and engine environments.
- Battery specification Specify Ex‑certified traction batteries for material‑handling equipment.
- Testing \& compliance Define test requirements and support compliance activities.
- Customer support Provide pre‑ and post‑sale technical assistance.
- Comply with company policies, health \& safety, and values.
- Proven experience as a Senior Electrical Design Engineer or similar role.
- Strong knowledge of electrical/electronic systems and machine controls.
- BOM generation, component sizing, and system integration skills.
- Understanding of PLC systems, electronics, and mechanical/electrical integration.
- Fault‑finding experience with complex electrical systems.
- HND/Degree in Electrical, Electronics, or Automotive Engineering.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD Electrical.
- Experience in highly regulated environments, CE marking, and technical construction files.
- Strong organisational skills, ability to manage multiple projects, and a collaborative mindset.
- Industrial controllers, PLCs, AC inverters.
- AC/DC power systems.
- CAN protocol knowledge.
- PLC, CPLD or FPGA programming.
- EMC knowledge for machines and control systems.
- Hazardous‑area regulations and design standards.
