We are looking for an experienced EHV Substation Primary Design Engineer to join our growing team based at Thorpe Park, Leeds or Cheadle, Staffordshire.
You’ll be involved throughout the project lifecycle, from feasibility studies and concept design through to detailed design and construction support. You'll collaborate with experienced engineers, project managers and technical specialists, helping to deliver practical engineering solutions on projects ranging from 11kV distribution systems to 132kV transmission\-connected substations.

Key Responsibilities:
- Produce primary electrical designs for EHV substations up to 132kV.
- Develop single line diagrams, substation layouts, equipment schedules and technical specifications.
- Complete feasibility studies, concept designs and detailed engineering activities.
- Prepare specifications for transformers, switchgear, cables, overhead line interfaces and associated plant.
- Produce engineering calculations and supporting technical documentation.
- Support AIS and GIS substation projects.
- Coordinate with protection and control, civil engineering and project delivery teams.
- Attend design reviews and technical workshops with clients and project stakeholders.
- Ensure designs meet National Grid, DNO, ICP and industry standards.
- Support tender submissions and mentor graduate and junior engineers where appropriate.
- Degree, HNC or HND in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline
- Experience designing EHV and HV substations
- Experience designing protection and control systems for HV and EHV substations
- Knowledge of National Grid, DNO, ICP, renewable energy or battery storage projects is advantageous
- Experience with AIS and/or GIS substations
- Excellent communication and problem\-solving skills
- Ability to work independently and within multidisciplinary teams
- A commitment to delivering high\-quality engineering solutions
- Full UK driving licence
- Salary up to £90,000, depending on experience
