Senior Data Engineer

Overview

Data Engineer / Technical Lead acting as technical authority within data teams, ensuring standards, quality, and best practices. Leads code reviews, coaching, and collaboration with architects. Designs and optimises Azure\-based data pipelines (Synapse, ADF, Databricks, PySpark, SQL), supports data modelling, improves performance, governance, and delivery excellence in complex environments.

Job Responsibilities

• Serve as the technical authority for Data Engineers within a data team


• Conduct pulls request validations, peer reviews, and ensure full compliance with data engineering standards


• Provide coaching and guidance to junior Data Engineers


• Contribute to the continuous improvement and maturity of data engineering practices within the organisation


• Act as the single point of contact between Data Platform Architects and engineering teams


• Translate architectural guidelines into actionable technical instructions for engineering teams


• Recommend alternative technical solutions depending on the targeted DWH layer (ingestion, transformation, consumption...)


• Participate in the definition, evolution, and continuous improvement of the data platform and the data engineering standards


• Provide structured feedback from field experience to refine practices and tooling


• Contribute to performance optimisation, data quality, and operational reliability

• Demonstrate expert proficiency in Azure Synapse, Azure Data Factory (ADF), Mapping Data Flow (MDF), Databricks, PySpark, SQL


• Ability to design, develop, and optimise data pipelines within the Azure ecosystem


• Ability to support the data modeler to ensure robust, scalable, and well\-modelled data structures, with strong expertise in dimensional modelling (star schema, DWH concepts).


• Experience using Power BI and experience with semantic data modelling (preferred).


• Natural leadership and ability to guide multiple teams.


• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, adapted to technical and non\-technical audiences.


• Pedagogical attitude with the ability to support learning and development.


• Fluent in English and French.


• Good level of Dutch (preferred).

• Analytical mindset, structured approach, and high attention to detail.


• High level of autonomy.


• Demonstrate technical decision\-making capabilities.
