Primarily accountable for the management of the end\-to\-end procurement activities for the sourcing of subcontracts, materials, plant and equipment for the Power T\&D on multiple substation projects, but may also be required to support on other contracts in the business unit as required.
Activities will include compiling procurement strategies, preparation of RFQ’s / ITT’s, management and evaluation of returns, and making sourcing recommendations to award contracts. The individual will be required to manage specific supply chains within the contract to monitor performance and drive continuous improvement to support contract and business unit key objectives.
Working closely with the sustainability function and the project delivery lead you will develop a new robust supply chain capacity and expertise, develop relationships with new suppliers and embed collaborative working both with the customer and the supply chain, aligning with the ethos of client’s delivery strategy. There will be a focus on fulfilling the objective of engaging with the local small medium enterprise’s (SME’s) to deliver works that offer the best monetary and social value and promotes a single culture.
What you'll be doing
- Monitor the supply market to identify potential new suppliers and products and lead meetings with suppliers to understand their products;
- Understand the supplier market, keeping abreast of market developments, demand trends and risks;
- Support the development of Supply Chain Partners on the projects and associated supply chain engagement events;
- Establish long term relationships with the supply chain focusing on value for money, service and product quality and continuous improvement to drive competitive advantage for Balfour Beatty;
- Establish performance led, long term supplier relationships focusing on value for money, service \& product quality, social value and continuous improvement to drive competitive advantage for the contract;
- Preparation of invitation to tenders and requests for quotations for subcontract, materials and service requirements;
- Carrying out due diligence and commercial checks for supply partners;
- Complete a full evaluation of tender responses and compile award recommendations for approval;
- Ensure that contract requirements are met and high quality, value for money contracts are negotiated to deliver efficiencies and saving targets;
- Liaise with the contract team to assist with the resolution of supply issues as and when required;
- Work cross\-functionally with all departments to drive and deliver HSEQ\+S principles and commercial objectives;
- Ensure strict compliance with processes and procedures and ensure quality standards are maintained;
- Create, update and manage procurement schedules for the projects on a day\-to\-day basis;
- Preparing orders in accordance with BB Power T\&D procurement governance where required;
- Provide procurement support for work winning opportunities for the business unit;
- Provide monthly dashboards and reports on procurement and subcontractor performance to the project delivery team;
- Focus on exceeding minimum service expectations by delivering an agile, value adding service with a deep understanding of the customer’s requirements, technical competence, functional knowledge and process efficiency;

- Develop and implement procurement strategies that align with business objectives, focusing on efficiencies, cost reduction, and risk mitigation;
- Support the bid process across substation projects;
- Ensure compliance with industry standards, regulations, and internal policies;
- Possess supply chain management experience;
- Can establish and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers;
- Monitor supplier performance to ensure adherence to contractual terms, quality standards, and procurement schedules;
- Hold the relevant NEC subcontract and commercial process knowledge
- Act as a liaison between internal stakeholders and suppliers, addressing project requirements, and managing procurement/delivery schedules.
- Work closely with key stakeholders to drive working relationships and being the main point of contact for your project portfolio.
- Support project risk management, providing procurement expertise and insights into potential supply chain disruptions.
- Manage, mentor, and develop procurement staff, fostering a high\-performance culture and encouraging professional growth.
- Support the Senior Procurement Manager or Head of Procurement to develop and deliver strategies across the Power Procurement Function
- Work closely with other Business Units Procurement teams to adopt a professional and collaborative working approach
- Adopt and drive positive behaviours across Power T\&D Procurement function
- Assess risks associated with supply chains and implement mitigation strategies
- Be a team player with key leadership skills and proven stakeholder management
- Adopt an appropriate style of people management that will deliver objectives while considering the skills, personalities and needs of employees.
- Previous project experience within a Utilities or Construction related environment, working with both materials suppliers and subcontractors.
- Possess excellent analytical and communication skills with a proven track record in negotiation
- Relevant business degree, MCIPS (or studying towards) or equivalent experience is desired
- Willingness to travel the UK for supplier visits and project/team meetings
