The West Midlands Growth Company (WMGC) is the region’s economic development delivery organisation.

From April 2026, we will lead the delivery of regionally commissioned economic development activity aligned to the West Midlands Growth Plan, working in partnership with the West Midlands Combined Authority and local authorities.

We are building a sharper, business\-focused organisation that attracts investment, supports high\-growth companies and drives measurable economic impact.

The Role
------------

As a Senior Business Development Manager – Tech \& Digital Services, you will play a pivotal role in attracting and securing high\-value inward investment into the West Midlands. You’ll lead engagement with mid\-to\-large corporate digital services organisations, promoting the region as a leading destination for growth.

You’ll combine sector insight, commercial acumen, and relationship expertise to generate investment opportunities, shape the regional value proposition, and support the growth of the digital ecosystem. Your work will directly contribute to job creation, economic impact, and the region’s global competitiveness.

What You’ll Be Doing
------------------------

  • Leading the development and execution of growth strategies across key Digital Services sub\-sectors such as enterprise software, SaaS, IT consulting, and systems integration.

  • Using market intelligence, sector analysis, and regional insights to identify and engage high\-value domestic and international investment opportunities.

  • Building and managing a strong network of intermediaries (including consultants, legal firms, and industry bodies) to develop a high\-quality pipeline of inward investment leads.

  • Creating compelling, evidence\-based value propositions that showcase the strengths of the West Midlands to attract corporate investment.

  • Driving lead generation and managing a pipeline of opportunities, with a focus on securing investment projects and delivering measurable job creation.

  • Managing relationships with existing strategic digital businesses in the region, supporting retention, expansion, and long\-term growth.

  • Collaborating with public, private, and academic partners, including local authorities and universities, to strengthen the regional digital ecosystem.

  • Supporting delivery and continuous improvement of the Tech \& Digital Services inward investment strategy.

  • Representing the organisation at a senior level, delivering high\-quality presentations and macro\-level pitches to global stakeholders.

  • Identifying commercial opportunities for partner organisations and contributing to wider revenue generation.

  • Providing mentorship and sharing sector expertise to build capability across the wider team.

What You’ll Bring
---------------------

Essential


  • Proven experience in business development, investment promotion, or sector growth within the digital or technology services space.

  • Strong commercial and consultative engagement skills, with the ability to influence senior stakeholders and C\-suite decision\-makers.

  • Experience translating market insights and technology trends into actionable opportunities.

  • Excellent communication, relationship management, and stakeholder engagement skills.

  • Ability to operate effectively in complex, multi\-stakeholder environments across public, private, and academic sectors.

  • Track record of developing and delivering strategic initiatives or growth plans.
Strong alignment with regional economic development goals and a passion for driving impact.
  • Desirable

  • Experience within a digital services organisation such as a software company, IT consultancy, or systems integrator.

  • Knowledge of the West Midlands digital ecosystem and wider business landscape.

  • Experience mentoring or developing others within a team environment.

  • Evidence of continuous professional development within technology or digital sector trends.

  • Strong strategic thinking and problem\-solving capability when addressing investment or growth barriers.
