<p><strong>About the Role</strong></p>
<p>The Daily Mail is recruiting a Senior Audience Editor to join our audience team, partnering with wider editorial teams to inform editorial decision-making and audience strategy. </p>
<p>The right candidate is an analytical thinker with strong editorial judgement and excellent communication skills, who can translate complex data into actionable recommendations to optimise audience growth and engagement, on and off platform. </p>
<p>This role must be able to work effectively with experienced newsroom colleagues on implementing audience engagement best practices and present insights to senior stakeholders with clarity and compelling storytelling. </p>

<p><strong>Main Responsibilities</strong> </p>
<ul>
<li>Analyse complex audience and content performance data to identify trends and opportunities for growth and engagement on and off platform </li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>Translate data into actionable insights for the newsroom and provide desks with advice on commissioning, optimisation and distribution strategies </li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>Analyse search, social and audience trends to inform future strategy and avoid gaps in our coverage </li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>Identify repromotion opportunities and coach desks to optimise stories for specific audiences, platforms and user journeys </li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>Suggest and execute experiments aimed at better attracting, engaging and retaining our target audiences </li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>Deliver contextualised insights that inform future planning for major news events </li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>Build strong relationships with editors and stakeholders across the business, and work with them to roll out audience engagement best practice </li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>Work on developing content, distribution, growth and engagement strategies </li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>Present insights in meetings with authority, clarity and confidence </li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>Stay up to date with industry trends and audience engagement best practices </li>
</ul>

<p><strong>Person Specification</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Bachelor’s degree in journalism, data or a related field </li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>Experience in audience development, editorial data analysis or journalism, ideally within a subscriptions business </li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>Strong analytical skills, with experience using data to inform strategies and decisions </li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>Practical experience with using SQL, Python or similar to query datasets and analyse patterns and trends (desirable) </li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>Excellent data literacy with the ability to interpret, visualise and explain trends clearly </li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>Good editorial judgement and the ability to work and make decisions quickly </li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>Knowledge of audience engagement best practices across all platforms, ideally within a subscription business </li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>Exceptional written communication skills, particularly in distilling complex information into concise reports </li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>Confident presenter, comfortable speaking to senior editors and stakeholders </li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>Ability to support and coach experienced journalists, building trust and credibility </li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>Creative problem-solving skills and a willingness to experiment </li>
</ul>
