Are you a passionate and dedicated teacher looking to make a real difference in the lives of children with additional needs?

Sense Education is working in partnership with a welcoming specialist provision in Burnley to recruit a committed SEND Teacher for a one-year maternity cover position. This rewarding opportunity involves leading a small class of just six pupils, all of whom have Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs), within a nurturing and highly supportive learning environment.

With the support of two experienced Teaching Assistants, you will deliver personalised learning that helps pupils develop academically, socially, and emotionally while building confidence, independence, and positive relationships.

This role would suit both experienced SEND teachers and mainstream teachers with a passion for inclusive education.

The Role

As a SEND Teacher, you will:

  • Lead a small class of six pupils with a range of special educational needs.

  • Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated lessons tailored to individual EHCP outcomes.

  • Work closely with two dedicated Teaching Assistants to provide high-quality support and learning opportunities.

  • Create a positive, structured, and inclusive classroom environment where every pupil can thrive.

  • Monitor, assess, and record pupil progress, adapting teaching strategies where required.

  • Support pupils' communication, emotional regulation, social development, and independence skills.

  • Build strong relationships with parents, carers, and external professionals to ensure a consistent and holistic approach.

  • Promote positive behaviour and engagement through nurturing and supportive strategies.

  • Contribute to annual reviews, target setting, and EHCP monitoring.

About You

We are looking for someone who:

  • Holds Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification.

  • Has experience working with children or young people with SEND.

  • Understands the importance of personalised learning and pupil-centred approaches.

  • Can confidently differentiate learning to meet a range of needs and abilities.

  • Demonstrates patience, resilience, empathy, and strong classroom management skills.

  • Is passionate about helping pupils overcome barriers to learning and achieve success.

  • Works effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.

  • Has excellent communication and organisational skills.

Experience working with Autism, SEMH, communication needs, or complex learning needs would be advantageous but is not essential.
