About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Teaching Assistant to support pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). The successful candidate will work closely with teachers and support staff to help create a positive, inclusive, and engaging learning environment where every student can achieve their full potential academically, socially, and emotionally.

Key Responsibilities

Classroom Support

Support teaching staff in delivering high-quality learning activities and lessons.

Work with students on a one-to-one basis and in small groups to reinforce learning.

Assist in the preparation and organisation of classroom resources and materials.

Encourage pupil engagement, participation, and independence.

Monitor and record pupil progress and provide feedback to teaching staff.

Student Support

Support students with a range of additional needs, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, ADHD, speech and language difficulties, and other learning needs.

Assist in implementing individual education plans (IEPs) and support strategies.

Promote positive behaviour and emotional wellbeing.

Build trusting and supportive relationships with pupils

Provide personal care support where required.

Safeguarding and Welfare

Maintain a safe, nurturing, and inclusive environment for all students.

Follow safeguarding, child protection, and health and safety procedures at all times.

Report any safeguarding or welfare concerns promptly and appropriately.

Support pupils during breaktimes, lunchtimes, educational visits, and enrichment activities.

Teamwork and Communication

Work collaboratively with teachers, support staff, therapists, and other professionals.

Communicate effectively with parents and carers when appropriate.

Attend staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development activities.

Contribute positively to the wider school community.

Person Specification

Essential Criteria

Experience working with children or young people.

A caring, patient, and resilient approach.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Ability to build positive relationships with students and colleagues.

Good organisational and time-management skills.

Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.

Ability to work effectively as part of a team.

Desirable Criteria

Experience working in a SEND, specialist, or educational setting.

Knowledge of Autism, SEMH, ADHD, and other additional needs.

Relevant qualifications in Education, Childcare, Health & Social Care, or a related field.

Understanding of behaviour management strategies.

First Aid qualification or willingness to undertake training.
