Semi-Senior Accountant / Practice Accountant

We’re a growing practice in Huddersfield, and we like it here. Our clients are a varied bunch, owner\-managed businesses, founders, freelancers and family firms, all different and none of them dull. We’re after a Semi\-Senior to join the team and take on a good share of the hands\-on accounts work. You’d have plenty of support around you, but we’re after someone who can find their feet quickly and get stuck in.

This is a role for someone who’s happiest with their sleeves rolled up. The bulk of your week is preparation, getting the numbers built and built well, with about a day a week spent covering payroll. It’s a busy, satisfying kind of role, with genuine scope to take on more as you grow. We’re proud of who we are and how our clients see us, and we’d like that to rub off on whoever joins us next.

What you’d actually be doing

• Building accounts, tax and working papers from the ground up, this is where most of your time goes and it’s the heart of the role


• Covering payroll around one day a week, keeping it accurate and out on time (BrightPay experience is a nice\-to\-have, but we’re glad to train you up)


• Handling bookkeeping and VAT returns, keeping records tidy and nothing slipping past a deadline


• Living in Xero day to day (a bit of QuickBooks or TaxCalc never hurts), and getting to grips with the odd tool we’ve built in\-house


• Lending a hand on client queries as your confidence builds, with a Client Manager in your corner


• Trading know\-how with the rest of us, we’re a collaborative lot and nobody here has stopped learning

It’s what you can do that counts, not where you trained, careful and accurate preparation is what really matters here:

• You’ve got real practice experience behind you (it’s essential for this one)


• Part\-qualified, AAT qualified, or qualified by experience, we’re glad to hear from any of you


• You’re confident preparing accounts, and at home with bookkeeping and VAT


• A bit of payroll under your belt is welcome, BrightPay especially, though it’s a bonus and not a dealbreaker


• You’re methodical, you notice the small stuff, and you take real pride in getting it right

• £26,000 to £32,000 depending on experience and qualifications

Pay: £26,000\.00\-£33,000\.00 per year
