Scaffold Design Engineer
DESIGN ENGINEER – LIVINGSTON, SCOTLAND
We are seeking an experienced and driven Design Engineer to join full time our specialist scaffolding engineering team at our Livingston office in Scotland.
The successful candidate will assist in the production of safe, accurate, practical, and cost\-effective design solutions for Layher products and systems, supporting the company’s revenue and profit objectives while delivering first\-class customer service.
This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer looking to develop their technical capabilities within a supportive and fast\-paced environment, working alongside experienced members of the Layher UK Technical Team.
Working across a diverse portfolio of construction, industrial, infrastructure, rail, and maintenance projects, you will develop scaffold and temporary works designs from concept through to installation, ensuring compliance with relevant standards, client requirements, and industry best practice.
Key Responsibilities
- Produce accurate and cost\-effective design applications for Layher systems and products.
- Assist with projects from initial concept through to final completion, including site surveys where required and design meetings, providing technical support throughout project delivery.
- Produce detailed design drawings, calculations, design briefs, and supporting technical documentation to relevant legislation, standards, and company procedures.
- Perform structural assessments and calculations to verify stability, load paths, and compliance with design criteria.
- Work closely with senior engineers and the wider technical team to deliver practical engineering solutions.
- Develop and maintain strong working relationships with existing customers while helping to support and nurture new business opportunities.
- Ensure work is completed accurately and within agreed deadlines.
- Maintain a high level of attention when completing scaffold inspections, design reviews, and design modifications.
- Demonstrate a proactive attitude towards personal development and continuous improvement of design processes and engineering standards.
- Degree, HNC/HND, or equivalent qualification in Civil, Structural or Construction Engineering.
- Proven experience in scaffolding design or temporary works engineering with strong understanding of scaffold loading, structural behavior, and temporary works principles.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD 2D \& 3D application as well as Microsoft Office applications.
- Experience producing technical drawings and engineering documentation.
- Ability to produce and review engineering calculations with some experience with finite element analysis (FEA) or simulation tools.
- Self\-motivated and resilient, with the ability to work independently and under pressure to meet tight deadlines.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to interact confidently with customers and colleagues at all levels.
- Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Knowledge of relevant industry standards and regulations.
- Experience using structural analysis softwares.
- Project management experience.
- Experience working within a manufacturing or product development environment.
- Membership of a professional engineering institution or progression toward chartered status.
- Site experience within the scaffolding or construction industry.
The successful candidate will undertake an initial training period within the Layher UK Technical Bureau.
