Retail Store Manager

Cowling \& Wilcox is an established independent art materials retailer, and we are looking for an experienced Store Manager to lead our Camberwell store.

We are looking for a hands\-on retail manager who enjoys leading a team, delivering great customer service and taking real ownership of their store.

This is very much a shop\-floor management role. We want someone who is visible, approachable and involved \- a Manager who knows what is happening across their store, sets clear expectations and is happy to work alongside their team when needed.

THE ROLE

• Leading, supporting and motivating the store team


• Organising the day\-to\-day operation of the shop and allocating work


• Working towards sales targets and KPIs and encouraging your team to achieve them


• Recruiting, onboarding, training and developing employees


• Managing staff performance, attendance and other day\-to\-day people matters


• Maintaining high standards of customer service and dealing with customer issues when required


• Ensuring the store is well presented, clean, organised and properly merchandised


• Overseeing pricing, stock replenishment, deliveries and stock control


• Taking a hands\-on role in deliveries and stock movement when required, including helping to load and unload deliveries, moving boxes of stock and putting stock away


• Managing tills, cash, banking and payroll information


• Ensuring Company procedures and Health \& Safety requirements are followed


• Maintaining good communication with your team and senior management

You will be supported by our General Manager, who works closely with Store Managers across the business.

ABOUT YOU

• Previous management experience in retail or other customer facing business


• A confident, approachable and supportive people manager


• Commercially aware and comfortable working towards sales targets


• Able to organise and prioritise effectively in a busy retail environment


• Pride in high standards of customer service and store presentation


• Proactive and comfortable making day\-to\-day management decisions


• Able to set clear expectations and address performance issues when necessary


• Enjoys being hands\-on and working alongside the team


• Is comfortable with the physical, hands\-on nature of the role, which includes being on your feet for much of the day and regularly handling and moving boxes of stock


• Reliable, professional and a good communicator

An interest in art, design or creative materials would be an advantage, but extensive product knowledge is not essential. What matters is an enthusiasm to learn our ranges and help customers find the right products.

WORKING PATTERN

This is a full\-time position based at our Camberwell store. Our stores trade seven days a week. The Deputy Manager normally takes responsibility for the store at weekends, so the Store Manager is not routinely required to work every weekend. However, the Store Manager must be able to work weekends when required, including providing management cover during the Deputy Manager's holidays or absence.

• £30,000\-£34,000 salary depending on experience
