Young People Relate (YPR) is looking for reliable, caring and safety\-conscious Weekend Drivers / Transport \& Escort Workers to support the safe transportation of children and young people.
This is an ideal opportunity for someone who enjoys working with young people, is confident behind the wheel and understands the importance of safeguarding, professionalism and providing a safe, reassuring journey.
The Role
You will be responsible for safely transporting children and young people between their homes, placements, activities and other required locations. Some of the young people we support may have additional or Special Educational Needs (SEN), so patience, understanding and a calm approach are essential.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Safely transporting children and young people to agreed locations.
- Ensuring passengers are appropriately secured using seatbelts or required safety equipment.
- Supporting young people when entering and exiting vehicles.
- Carrying out basic vehicle safety and cleanliness checks before journeys.
- Ensuring young people are never left unattended in a vehicle.
- Completing safe handovers to parents, carers, schools or other authorised professionals.
- Maintaining appropriate professional boundaries and confidentiality.
- Reporting safeguarding, welfare, behavioural or transport concerns promptly.
- Completing accurate journey, incident and service records when required.
- Communicating professionally with families, social workers, schools, carers and YPR colleagues.
- Following YPR safeguarding, health and safety and transport procedures at all times.
Essential:
- Full UK driving licence.
- Confident and responsible driver with a strong commitment to road and passenger safety.
- Available to work weekends, including Saturdays and Sundays.
- Experience working with children, young people, care, education, transport or a similar environment.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Reliable, punctual and able to manage changing transport requirements.
- Calm, patient and able to respond appropriately to challenging situations.
- Strong understanding of safeguarding responsibilities.
- Valid Enhanced DBS suitable for working with children – required for immediate start.
