Job Description

Responsible for delivering high\-quality care as set out in the home’s statement of purpose and in line with the Children’s home regulations and care standards. Adhering to young people’s placement plans to support young people in their care and development; managing behaviour and helping them to maintain their health and relationships. Also responsible for facilitating education, contact visits and activities for young people.

Management support

· Support the manager in ensuring compliance with organisational Policy and Procedures, and Children’s Homes Regulations (2015\)

· Promote and maintain a culture of transparency and confidentiality

· Support the manager to ensure that the home and its programmes are planned and delivered to meet the needs of all children.

· Support the manager and team to achieve positive outcomes for the young people

Service Responsibilities:

· Be flexible in hours of work in order to meet tasks required

· Ensure children are kept safe and engaged throughout the day by implementing and utilising activity plans

· Support young people’s contact visits and health appointments

· Encourage and promote education including home tuition and encourage positive attendance

· Attend to practical matters at the home in relation to childcare (cooking, cleaning, general maintenance of the home)

· Implement behaviour management techniques to promote positive behaviours

· Attend all internal and external meetings

· Follow and adhere to young people’s care plans

· Act as a young person’s key worker, fulfil all key work responsibilities and keep care plans under regular review

· Ensure key work is planned, completed and relative to care plans and current risks

· Support young people’s admissions and discharges to and from the home

· Safeguard and promote the welfare and development of young people

· Ensure that young people’s needs, wishes and feelings are considered and where possible met

· Promote young people’ rights

· Ensure young people are supported at times of crisis

· Promote contact between young people and family members.

· Maintain a clean and safe environment. Be aware of your practical and reporting responsibilities in relation to Health and Safety regulations and contribute the upkeep of the building and its surroundings

· Ensure budget spending is adhered to and manage identified budgets

· Ensure the maximum care of organisational property and equipment including storage.

· Ensure that the home provides an environment that is safe and sensitive to the needs of the young people

· To undertake any other duties as requested

Staffing responsibilities

· Promote a happy and positive environment where staff and young people feel included

· Always consider the effect your presentation, communication and conduct will have on others and always endeavour to work as part of a team.

· Always be a representative of the home and the organisation

· Attend looked after reviews, professional and educational meetings

· Liaise with professional agencies and maintain good working relationships with parents, social workers, schools and others involved with the welfare of the young people

· Attend own structured supervision sessions within set timescales

· Raise any concerns with the deputy or manager in relation to staff attitude, whistleblowing or safeguarding within appropriate timescales

· Ensure that organisational policies and procedures are adhered to

· Read \& take part in the handover paperwork prior to starting a shift

· Ensure that risk assessments, behaviour and missing plans are always followed and updated following incidents

· Ensure any safeguarding or child protection matters are reported to the registered manager without delay

· Identify own training needs and attend as required

· Ensure that all key paperwork is complete prior to leaving shift to include (but not exclusive to) incident, missing, physical intervention, sanction, room search, and accident reports and this information has been shared with the homes manager within the required timescales

Knowledge and Understanding

· Children’s Home Regulations and Quality Standards 2015

· Detail Personnel Care Policies and procedures

· Must be comfortable interacting with young people from varied backgrounds

Skill and Abilities

· Able to build positive relationships with young people

· Able to manage stress, difficult dynamics and demonstrate emotional resilience.

· Competent with administrative and PC skills

· Ability to work on own initiative

· Capable of performing a variety of paperwork duties, including report writing

· Ability to communicate with other professionals and family members

· Ability to work within a team

· Understanding of responsibility and accountability

· Ability to embrace a flexible working pattern
