Research Specialist in Drug Discovery

The Department of Microbiology, Tumor and Cell Biology (MTC) at Karolinska Institutet conducts research and teaching within immunology, infection biology, cell biology and cancer. Our key words are multidisciplinary, bridging, national and international collaborations.
We are currently seeking a research specialist to the research group of Margareta Wilhelm, although the work will be carried out in close collaboration with Professor Sonia Lain. Sonia Lain is affiliated with MTC’s Department of Tumor Biology, and in particular with activities within drug development.### Description of the subject area
One of the most challenging lines of investigation is the discovery of molecules that can be developed into medicines. I the project for the position, we establish the mechanism of action of our molecules and with this information we proceed to suggest and then test the potential use of these molecules to treat a specific disease. Your mission
The general mission of Sonia Lain’s project is to discover potential medicaments for the treatment of disease with a special focus on cancer. The candidate will be involved in the experimental work that may lead to the use of an already selected molecule in the clinic. This will also involve the suggestion of companies and medical experts in the relevant diseases as well as contacting with them to understand and satisfy their requirements.
Eligibility requirements
For employment as Research Specialist at Karolinska Institutet, the eligibility requirements stated in the Guidelines for non\-teaching positions at Karolinska Institutet are applied in relation to the established profile of employment.
To be eligible for employment as a Research Specialist, in addition to holding a Degree of Doctor, PhD, or having a foreign degree deemed equivalent to a Swedish doctoral degree, the applicant must have demonstrated research expertise as well as have documented postdoctoral research experience.
*Meritorious for the position**:*
- Having gained industry experience in drug discovery and preclinical evaluation, including both in vitro and in vivo work will be positively considered.
- Ability of building reliable experimental workflows and generating high\-quality data, in order to reach the final aim; to add value at an early stage of the drug discovery process.
- Having experience of the requirements necessary to reach the IND level with a molecule, that is understanding the requirements of companies is another important asset.

After an overall assessment of the expertise and merits of the applicants in relation to the subject area, Karolinska Institutet will determine which of them has the best potential to contribute to a positive development of the activities at KI.
