Are you excited about pioneering experimental quantum computing? Do you want to be part of a world\-class research environment developing the next generation of superconducting quantum processors? We are seeking a research specialist to join our ambitious team at the Wallenberg Centre for Quantum Technology (WACQT). This is an exciting opportunity for a research engineer position at the Quantum Technology Division of the Microtechnology and Nanoscience Department focused on innovative research in quantum technology.

About us
------------

The Department of Microtechnology and Nanoscience advances the frontiers in quantum technology, nanoscience, photonics and future electronic systems \- for technical and societal development. Our cross\-disciplinary approach gives interesting collaborations in academy, industry and society, and is a driving force for innovations, results and breakthroughs. We offer a vibrant, international research environment and direct access to world\-class nanofabrication facilities.

At the Quantum Technology Laboratory, we explore how quantum physics can unlock radically new ways of processing information \- far beyond the limits of classical systems. Our research spans quantum computing, sensing, transduction, thermodynamics, and foundations, all aimed at harnessing the powerful behavior of light and matter at the quantum level. We offer a vibrant, international research environment and direct access to world\-class nanofabrication facilities.

You will work in the stimulating research environment of the Wallenberg Centre for Quantum Technology (WACQT).

Job description
-------------------

We are running a Proof of Concept (PoC) project aimed at developing and demonstrating a novel electrical trimming method to set and fine\-tune the frequency of transmon fixed\-frequency qubits junctions.

This work sits at the intersection of applied physics and electrical engineering. A key component of this position involves active work within the WACQT Quantum Technology project, giving you direct access to Sweden’s most advanced infrastructure for quantum computing.

Key Responsibilities:

We are looking for a hands\-on Research Engineer to drive the experimental side of this project. You will work in a high\-tech laboratory environment, ensuring that our quantum devices meet precise specifications.

Your main responsibilities will include:

  • Experimental Design: Develop and optimize setups for post\-fabrication frequency trimming of superconducting qubits/junctions.

  • Advanced Measurements: Perform high\-precision DC and RF measurements using Source Measure Units (SMUs) and lock\-in amplifiers.

  • Cryogenic Work: Assist in the operation of dilution refrigerators or cryostats for low\-temperature characterization.

  • Data Analysis: Automate measurement routines (Python/MATLAB) and analyze complex datasets to validate the trimming process.

  • Collaboration: Work closely with fabrication teams and other academic partners at Chalmers.
Who we are looking for
--------------------------

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in physics, Electrical Engineering, Nanotechnology, or a related field.

  • Practical experience with DC, AC, and RF measurements.

  • Demonstrated competence in low\-voltage electrical measurements using Source Measure Units (SMUs). Familiarity with Spectrum Analyzers, Signal Generators, and Lock\-in Amplifiers.

  • Basic to intermediate skills in Python or MATLAB for data analysis and instrument control.
You are a careful and methodical engineer or physicist who thrives in the lab. You enjoy troubleshooting hardware, optimizing signal paths, and understanding the physics behind the measurement.

It is meritorious if you have:

  • Experience with Vector Network Analyzers (VNA) and lock\-in amplifiers.

  • A background in low\-temperature physics (cryogenics) and dilution refrigerators.

  • Previous experience with superconducting circuits or Josephson junctions.
Contract terms
------------------

The position is a temporary full\-time employment for a maximum of 360 days.

What we offer
-----------------

  • Read more about working at Chalmers and our benefits for employees.

  • A dynamic and inspiring working environment in the coastal city of Gothenburg.
