Relief Staff Nurse

Marian House is a small, homely nursing home with 26 beds in Glasnevin for all female residents. We are currently looking for a RELIEF Registered Staff Nurse to join our team. Applicants must be currently registered with NMBI and be passionate about Gerontological Care.

Overview of the role
To promote and maintain the highest attainable standard of nursing care within the home and ensure that all staff are performing their duties adequately. This role reports to and is responsible to the Clinical Nurse Managers.
What are the qualifications, skills and experience required?
- Registered on the Irish live register (NMBI). Must have active PIN.
- Clinical experience working in Gerontological Care or Residential Nursing Care is desirable but comprehensive orientation and professional support will be given.
- Working experience of HIQA Standards and Health Act Regulations 2013
- Fluent in English language (verbal and written) and be eligible to work in Ireland
- Strong communication and listening skills
- Work well with and lead a care team
- Caring and compassionate, and be passionate about providing high quality person\-centered care.
CLINICAL PRACTICE
- To deliver person centred approach to care.
- To participate in the assessment of care needs and the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care for named residents.
- To provide support for residents and their significant others.
- To liaise with other members of the Multidisciplinary Team to ensure that the physical, psychosocial, spiritual and psychological needs of the residents are met.
- To liaise with Catering staff with regard to residents meals and dietary requirements and to ensure all meals are served appropriately.
- To keep accurate and legible records and to be aware of the legal implications of these documents.
- To implement appropriate practices in line with the policies of Marian House., e.g. Medication management.
- To participate in addressing the health education needs of the resident and their significant others.
- To attend and contribute to multidisciplinary meetings.
- To respect the dignity and confidentiality of each resident at all times serving as an advocate if necessary.
- To participate in the management and care of the resident and their significant others at time of death and/or discharge.
- To consolidate management skills.
- To participate fully as a member of the team and to support colleagues on the ward in their work.
- To be cost effective in the use of equipment and material sources.
- To direct and supervise care assistants in the delivery of care.
- To participate in the off duty and annual leave arrangements to ensure adequate patient care is provided at all times.
- To ensure that actual and potential problems are referred appropriately.
- To participate on committees and working groups as requested.
- To participate in maintaining and supporting a satisfactory learning environment.
- To liaise with appropriate personnel to promote and participate in education.
- To act as a mentor to staff that is new to Marian House.
- To provide a supportive and learning environment for students from external agencies to enable them to achieve their objectives.
- To be familiar with An Bord Altranais professional code of conduct and act accordingly.
- To be responsible for personal professional development.
- To participate in audit/research activities as appropriate.
- To attend and participate in in\-service education programmes and courses.
- To participate in individual performance review using a self assessment model.
- Be familiar with Marian House policies, practices and procedures.
- To adhere to the policies and procedures laid down in the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act, 2005\.
- To maintain a safe work environment in co\-operation with the Management Team and with reference to the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act, 2005 as amended.
- To work in a safe manner with due care and attention to safety of self and other authorised persons in the workplace.
- To report immediately any accidents or incidents involving residents, staff members or members of the public.
- To practice high standards of personal hygiene including the wearing of proper attire, grooming etc.
· It is the responsibility of all staff across Marian House to ensure that infection control and hygiene standards are adhered to and maintained at all times.
GENERAL
- To always adhere to Marian House policies.
- To perform such other duties, appropriate to the post as may be assigned from time to time by the Clinical Managers or Director of Nursing.
- To ensure confidentiality in all matters of information obtained during the course of employment.
