Reliability Maintenance Engineer

Job Purpose

To ensure the optimal performance, reliability, and compliance of manufacturing equipment and Local Exhaust Ventilation (LEV) systems through the effective delivery of Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM), routine inspections, and timely completion of remedial works identified during servicing and audits.

The role involves proactively identifying faults, supporting root cause analysis, and implementing corrective and preventative actions to minimise downtime and improve equipment efficiency. Additionally, the position contributes to the ongoing development and optimisation of maintenance schedules and enhances operator\-led equipment checks to improve overall operational effectiveness.

The role will primarily involve working independently to carry out PPM activities, while also collaborating with the Service Engineer on major servicing tasks and working alongside the wider maintenance team to support breakdown response and planned improvement projects as required.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

· Carry out Planned Preventive Maintenance (PPMs) in line with scheduled requirements.

· Perform regular machine inspections and condition checks to ensure safe and efficient operation.

· Complete remedial work identified during PPMs, inspections, and routine checks in a timely manner.

· Conduct regular performance assessments of all LEV (Local Exhaust Ventilation) systems and maintain them to required standards.

· Assist in the creation and ongoing management of critical spare parts lists, ensuring maintenance stores are organised and adequately stocked.

· Ensure all materials and spare parts required for PPM activities are identified, ordered, and available when needed.

· Support the development and documentation of tailored service schedules for individual machines.

· Accurately document machine condition following servicing, including:

· Work carried out

· Faults or issues identified

· Recommendations for further action

· Clear observations supported by photographic evidence where applicable

· Improve and simplify operator daily check procedures, providing clear guidance to support correct inspection and lubrication practices.

· Support operator training initiatives and carry out regular spot checks to ensure compliance with required standards.

· Assist with reactive maintenance, including machine breakdowns, and contribute to planned maintenance projects as required.

Qualifications/Education standards and level of skills

• Completed a Mechanical Engineering apprenticeship or a formal Mechanical Engineering Qualification


• A minimum of C level or equivalent at GSCE including Math’s, English and at least 1 science or technical subject

Essential

• A mechanical maintenance background in a manufacturing / engineering environment


• Ability to move from one task to another on a flexible basis to meet variable priorities


• A positive health and safety attitude and level of competency


• A positive attitude and motivation to drive continues improvement and improve asset reliability


• To work in an organised, tidy and efficient manner
