About Abbeycare Scotland

Abbeycare Scotland is a residential, abstinence\-based treatment service providing supervised detoxification and rehabilitation for individuals recovering from substance use disorders. Our trauma\-informed therapeutic programme integrates Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) principles with the 12\-Step recovery model, offering clients a safe, compassionate, and structured environment to begin and sustain recovery.

Job Purpose

The Recovery Practitioner plays a key role in supporting clients throughout their detoxification and rehabilitation journey. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, the post\-holder will provide therapeutic, emotional, and practical support to individuals, helping them build the skills, resilience, and self\-awareness required to maintain abstinence and achieve lasting recovery.

Key Responsibilities

*Client Support and Casework*

· Provide one\-to\-one keyworking and group facilitation using trauma\-informed, CBT\-based, and 12\-Step approaches.

· Support clients through the stages of detoxification, rehabilitation, and aftercare planning.

· Conduct assessments, develop personalised recovery care plans, utilize the recovery outcome star and review progress regularly.

· Promote an atmosphere of safety, dignity, and respect within the therapeutic community.

· Support clients to develop coping strategies, relapse prevention skills, and emotional regulation.

*Therapeutic Programme Delivery*

· Encourage engagement in group sessions including psychoeducation, relapse prevention, life skills, and 12\-Step study groups.

· Contribute to the design and delivery of the therapeutic timetable in collaboration with the wider multi\-disciplinary team.

· Encourage client participation in peer\-support and community recovery networks.

Teamwork and Communication

· Work collaboratively with management, nurses, therapists, and other supporting staff to ensure continuity of care.

· Attend and contribute to multidisciplinary meetings, handovers, and case reviews.

· Maintain accurate and confidential client records in line with service policies and GDPR requirements.

Health, Safety, and Compliance

· Support safe detoxification under clinical supervision, observing and reporting changes in clients’ wellbeing.

· Adhere to all safeguarding, health and safety, and risk management procedures.

· Uphold the principles of equality, diversity, and inclusion in all aspects of work.

Professional Development

· Participate in supervision, reflective practice, and ongoing professional training.

· Keep up to date with developments in addiction recovery, trauma\-informed care, and mental health best practice.

Person Specification

Essential

· Experience of working in a substance use, mental health, or social care setting.

· Understanding of trauma\-informed care and recovery\-oriented practice.

· Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage and motivate clients.

· Ability to manage challenging behaviour with empathy, boundaries and professionalism.

· Good organisational skills and ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team.

· Commitment to maintaining professional boundaries and confidentiality.

· Willingness to work shifts, including evenings and weekends.

Desirable

· SVQ Level 3 (Health and Social Care) or equivalent qualification, or willingness to work towards it.

· Training in CBT, motivational interviewing, or group facilitation.

· Personal or professional understanding of the 12\-Step recovery model.

· Experience in a residential or detox setting.

· Registration with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) or eligibility to register.
