Salary: £35,000\-£50,000 per year, depending on qualifications and experience.
Smith \& Brenson is a trusted construction company, delivering high\-quality projects across public, private and not\-for\-profit sectors in commercial and domestic settings since 2006\. We work with clients in education, local government, healthcare, emergency services and leisure, as well as insurance reinstatement and landmark heritage projects.
Much of our work is in the region of £80,000–£200,000 in value, but projects can range from half a day to multi\-million\-pound fire and flood damage schemes over a year in duration. This variety gives you exposure to a wide range of clients and project types on properties of all ages.
We are now looking for a full\-time Quantity Surveyor to join our team of in\-house surveyors, project managers, health and safety professionals and site staff. This is a hands\-on, office\-based role with regular site visits within a 50\-mile radius of our head office on the outskirts of Bristol (BS16 postcode).
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare cost estimates, budgets and valuations for projects
- Manage project costs throughout the lifecycle, including variations and final accounts
- Administer contracts, including JCTs
- Undertake site visits to assess progress and support valuations
- Liaise with clients, contractors, consultants, suppliers and loss adjusters
- Support tendering, procurement and cost planning activities
- Work collaboratively with Building Surveyors and Project Managers to deliver projects on time and within budget
- Assist with insurance\-related works, including valuations and cost reporting
- BSc (minimum) in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline
- Solid experience in a Quantity Surveyor role within the construction industry
- Good working knowledge of construction contracts
- Strong ability to read, interpret and extract quantities from construction drawings and technical specifications
- Full UK driving licence
- Organised and detail\-focused, with the ability to manage multiple projects
- Strong communication and commercial awareness
- Comfortable working across office and site environments
- Competent IT, numeracy and report\-writing skills
- Commitment to health and safety best practice
- Willingness to undertake an Enhanced DBS check
- Experience in insurance reinstatement or small\-to\-medium value projects
- Familiarity with CAD drawings and/or digital measurement or take\-off software
- Experience working in a multidisciplinary team environment and awareness of building surveying techniques
