Our work includes public realm schemes, deep and shallow drainage, paving, bulk earthworks, complex access works, FPC works, soft landscaping and material reprocessing. We are looking for a Quantity Surveyor / Estimator to support our continued growth and strengthen our commercial function.
This is a varied role suited to someone who enjoys being involved across the full project lifecycle, from tender stage through to procurement, valuations, variations and final accounts.
You will work closely with the directors, project managers, site teams, clients and supply chain, with the opportunity to have a direct impact on project performance and business growth.
This role would suit an experienced Assistant QS ready to step up, an Intermediate QS, or a commercially minded Estimator/QS who wants more influence and variety than a larger corporate environment may offer.
Key responsibilities
You will be involved in:
- Pricing tenders and preparing competitive submissions
- Measuring drawings and carrying out take\-offs
- Preparing bills of quantities and cost breakdowns
- Supporting procurement of subcontractors, suppliers and materials
- Preparing and managing valuations
- Monitoring project costs, variations and commercial performance
- Preparing and agreeing final accounts
- Attending site visits across the North West
- Working closely with directors, project managers and site teams
- Supporting commercial reporting and forecasting
- Identifying risks, opportunities and value engineering options
The ideal candidate will have:
- Experience in quantity surveying, estimating or commercial management within construction
- Groundworks, civil engineering, paving, infrastructure or public realm experience
- Ability to measure drawings and price works accurately
- Good commercial awareness and attention to detail
- Confidence working with site teams, clients and suppliers
- Ability to manage workload and prioritise deadlines
- Strong communication and negotiation skills
- Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office
- A practical, hands\-on understanding of construction delivery
Why join HGP?
This is an opportunity to join a growing North West contractor where your commercial input will be visible, valued and directly linked to project performance.

HGP operates from a Chorley head office supporting estimating, pre\-construction, commercial management, project planning, procurement, health and safety, compliance and business operations.
With our own operational yard, plant and fleet support, HGP has strong delivery capability across sites in the North West.
