Job Purpose
We are seeking an experienced and proactive Quality Manager to lead the Quality Management System (QMS) within a subcontract precision engineering environment serving highly regulated industries. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring compliance with AS9100, ISO 45001, and ISO 14001 standards, with a strong emphasis on Quality Assurance, regulatory and statutory compliance, continuous improvement, and customer satisfaction.
The Quality Manager will provide strategic leadership of the company's integrated management systems, ensuring robust governance, risk management, and compliance processes while overseeing Quality Control activities to maintain product conformity and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Quality Assurance \& Management Systems
- Maintain, develop, and continuously improve the company's Integrated Management System (IMS) in accordance with AS9100, ISO 45001, and ISO 14001 requirements.
- Ensure all business processes comply with applicable customer, regulatory, statutory, and industry requirements.
- Lead internal and external audits, including customer, certification body, and regulatory audits.
- Manage certification and surveillance audits, ensuring successful outcomes and timely closure of findings.
- Develop and monitor quality objectives, KPIs, and management review processes.
- Drive a culture of quality, compliance, and continuous improvement throughout the organisation.
- Ensure effective document control, change management, and risk\-based thinking across all operational processes.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation, regulatory requirements, and customer\-specific quality requirements.
- Monitor changes in applicable standards, regulations, and legal obligations, implementing necessary updates to systems and procedures.
- Maintain compliance records and ensure robust governance of quality, environmental, and health \& safety management systems.
- Support management in identifying and mitigating business, quality, environmental, and health \& safety risks.
- Provide leadership and oversight of inspection and Quality Control activities throughout manufacturing and supply chain processes.
- Ensure inspection methods, calibration systems, and measurement techniques meet customer and regulatory requirements.
- Review non\-conformance reports, concession requests, and corrective actions to ensure effective resolution.
- Analyse quality data and trends to identify improvement opportunities and reduce defects, scrap, and rework.
- Ensure appropriate use of quality tools and methodologies including Root Cause Analysis, 8D, CAPA, FMEA, SPC, FAIRs and Lean improvement techniques.
- Manage supplier approval, monitoring, and performance evaluation processes.
- Conduct supplier audits and support supplier development initiatives.
- Ensure external providers meet required quality, environmental, and health \& safety standards.
- Act as the primary quality representative for customers and external stakeholders.
- Manage customer complaints and corrective action activities to achieve timely resolution.
- Support customer visits, audits, and quality reviews.
- Drive improvements to enhance customer satisfaction and business performance.
- Lead, coach, and develop quality personnel to achieve departmental and organisational objectives.
- Promote a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and operational excellence.
- Collaborate with production, engineering, procurement, and management teams to improve process capability and business performance.
- Champion Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Proven experience as a Quality Manager within a precision engineering environment including aerospace, defence, oil and gas and motorsport.
- Extensive working knowledge of:
- AS9100 Rev D
- ISO 45001
- ISO 14001
- Demonstrable experience managing integrated management systems and maintaining third\-party certifications.
- Strong understanding of regulatory, statutory, and customer compliance requirements.
- Experience leading internal, external, customer, and certification audits.
- Strong knowledge of Quality Assurance principles and quality management methodologies.
- Experience overseeing Quality Control functions within a manufacturing environment.
- Proven experience in non\-conformance management, corrective actions, and root cause analysis.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- Strong analytical and problem\-solving abilities.
- Lead Auditor qualification in AS9100, ISO 9001, ISO 45001, and/or ISO 14001\.
- HNC/HND or Degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality Management, or a related discipline.
- CQI, IRCA, or equivalent professional quality qualification.
- Experience with aerospace customer requirements and special process controls.
- Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or Continuous Improvement methodologies.

Pay: £45,000\.00\-£50,000\.00 per year
