About the Role
We are looking for an experienced and motivated Project Manager to join our growing groundworks company.
This is a predominantly site\-based role, with the majority of your time spent managing and overseeing groundworks projects across the South of England. Our Head Office is based in Larkfield, Kent, which you will attend as required for meetings, planning and project coordination.
The successful candidate will be responsible for managing projects from initial planning through to completion, ensuring works are delivered safely, efficiently, on programme and within budget.
You will work closely with clients, main contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, engineers and site teams to ensure projects are delivered to the required standards and specification.
We are looking for someone with a strong background in groundworks and civil engineering, who understands the practical requirements of working on construction sites and has experience managing projects, site teams and subcontractors.
Key Responsibilities
- Take overall responsibility for the successful delivery of allocated groundworks projects from commencement through to completion.
- Regularly attend and manage sites across the South of England.
- Plan, programme and coordinate groundworks activities to ensure projects are delivered on schedule.
- Liaise with clients, main contractors, engineers, subcontractors, suppliers and site teams.
- Manage project budgets, costs and commercial requirements.
- Monitor project progress and provide regular updates to senior management and clients.
- Coordinate labour, materials, plant, equipment and subcontractors.
- Review drawings, specifications, programmes and project requirements.
- Identify potential risks, delays and issues and implement appropriate solutions.
- Ensure all works are carried out in accordance with relevant health and safety requirements, company procedures and industry standards.
- Work closely with Site Managers, Supervisors and Groundworkers to ensure works are progressing efficiently.
- Attend site and project meetings and provide clear progress updates.
- Manage subcontractors and suppliers, ensuring works are completed in accordance with agreed specifications and programmes.
- Coordinate plant and equipment requirements, including arranging deliveries and ensuring resources are available when required.
- Assist with procurement of materials, plant and subcontractor services.
- Monitor variations, additional works and changes to project scope.
- Maintain accurate project records, documentation and reports.
- Assist with project programmes, schedules and completion documentation.
- Coordinate snagging, completion and handover of projects.
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with clients and project stakeholders.
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously and prioritise workloads according to project requirements.
The ideal candidate will have previous experience working as a Project Manager within the groundworks, civil engineering or construction industry.
You will have a strong understanding of the practical and commercial aspects of delivering groundworks projects and be confident managing projects from start to finish.
You will ideally have:
- Previous experience as a Project Manager within groundworks, civil engineering or construction.
- Strong knowledge of groundworks and associated construction activities.
- Experience managing subcontractors, suppliers and site teams.
- Experience working with main contractors and clients.
- Good understanding of project planning, programming and delivery.
- Good commercial awareness and an understanding of project costs and budgets.
- Strong organisational and time\-management skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong problem\-solving skills and the ability to deal with issues quickly and effectively.
- The ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities.
- A good understanding of construction health and safety requirements.
- The ability to read and understand construction drawings, specifications and project documentation.
- Good IT skills and confidence using Microsoft Office and relevant project management software.
- A proactive and practical approach to project management.
- A full UK driving licence and the ability to travel regularly between sites across the South of England.
