Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced and technically competent Project Manager – Utilities \& Pumping Systems to support the continued growth of our utilities division. This role will act as a key link between our Sales Manager and Engineering Manager, ensuring the successful delivery of pumping system projects from initial enquiry through to completion.
The successful candidate will possess strong technical knowledge of pumps and pumping equipment across clean water, wastewater, sewage, drainage, flood defence, industrial, and process applications. They will coordinate projects, provide technical support, liaise with customers and suppliers, and ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.
This is a hands\-on role requiring both technical expertise and excellent project management skills.
Project Management
- Manage multiple pumping equipment projects simultaneously from enquiry through to completion.
- Coordinate activities between sales, engineering, operations, suppliers, and customers.
- Develop and maintain project schedules, ensuring milestones and deadlines are achieved.
- Monitor project costs, margins, risks, and resource requirements.
- Prepare and maintain project documentation, reports, and progress updates.
- Ensure projects comply with contractual, technical, and regulatory requirements.
- Provide technical guidance on pump selection, system design, and equipment specification.
- Review customer requirements and develop suitable pumping solutions.
- Support the Sales Manager during the quotation and tender stages with technical input.
- Assist the Engineering Manager with design reviews, equipment selection, and project execution.
- Interpret technical drawings, specifications, hydraulic calculations, and system requirements.
- Act as a key point of contact for customers throughout project delivery.
- Attend site meetings, surveys, and project review meetings when required.
- Coordinate with manufacturers, suppliers, subcontractors, and service providers.
- Manage customer expectations and resolve technical or project\-related issues efficiently.
- Support projects within:
- Clean water treatment and distribution
- Wastewater treatment
- Sewage pumping stations
- Surface water and drainage systems
- Flood alleviation and stormwater applications
- Industrial and process pumping systems
- Maintain awareness of industry standards, regulations, and best practices.
- Promote a strong health and safety culture.
- Ensure compliance with company procedures, client requirements, and industry regulations.
- Support risk assessments, method statements, and quality assurance processes.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives.
- Proven experience within the pump industry, utilities sector, or related mechanical engineering environment.
- Strong technical knowledge of:
- Centrifugal pumps
- Submersible pumps
- Booster systems
- Wastewater and sewage pumps
- Clean water pumping systems
- Variable speed drives (VSDs)
- Pipework, valves, and associated pumping equipment
- Experience managing engineering or equipment supply projects.
- Ability to understand and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
- Excellent organisational and project coordination skills.
- Strong communication and customer relationship skills.
- Commercial awareness with an understanding of project profitability and risk.
- Competent with Microsoft Office and project management software.
- Full UK driving licence.
- HNC/HND or Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Formal project management qualification
- Experience working with UK water utilities and framework contracts.
- Knowledge of pump system design and the ability to question when required
- Understanding of control panels, telemetry, and automation systems.
- Experience with packaged pumping stations and turnkey projects.
- Strong problem\-solving and analytical skills.
- Highly organised with excellent attention to detail.
- Able to manage multiple priorities in a fast\-paced environment.
- Collaborative team player who can work effectively across departments.
- Proactive and customer\-focused approach.
- Confident communicator with the ability to build strong internal and external relationships.
- Projects delivered safely, on time, and within budget.
- Strong support provided to both the Head of Utilities and Engineering Manager.
- High levels of customer satisfaction and repeat business.
- Effective management of suppliers and subcontractors.
- Technical solutions that meet customer requirements and maximise project profitability.
- Ability to build positive relationships with inhouse engineering teams, inhouse and external stake holders
Pay: £45,000\.00\-£55,000\.00 per year
