Production Operative — Woodworking, Assembly and Spray Finishing

Job Overview

We are looking for a skilled and practical Production Operative to join our workshop team, supporting the manufacture and assembly of timber\-built enclosures with some metalworking requirements and finishing stages

The role includes woodworking production, CNC machine operation, panel preparation, machinery use, and enclosure assembly. In addition, the successful candidate will carry out basic spray finishing of parts and enclosures applying water\-based clear\-coat finishes

This role is well suited to someone with a broad hands\-on workshop background who is comfortable working in fabrication and finishing , can follow drawings and production instructions, and is committed to safe, accurate, high\-quality work.

Key Responsibilities

• Load, unload, sort, and prepare timber panels, sheet materials, and relevant metal components.


• Operate CNC machinery to support the cutting and preparation of panels.


• Use woodworking machinery and equipment, including table saws, spindle moulders, edgebanders, and associated workshop tools.


• Assemble timber\-built enclosures accurately and consistently.


• Apply spray finishes to built enclosures, ideally with experience in air\-assisted airless water\-borne lacquer


• Install basic cables, devices, and components inside finished enclosures.


• Read and follow production drawings, job sheets, and work instructions.


• Check parts, fabricated items, and finished assemblies for quality, accuracy, and finish.


• Maintain a clean, safe, and organised working area.


• Handle materials safely and support the movement of stock and completed items around the workshop.


• Work as part of the production team to meet quality, safety, and delivery targets.

Required Skills and Experience

• Experience working in a workshop, manufacturing, production, joinery, carpentry, woodworking, fabrication, or similar hands\-on environment.


• Practical experience using woodworking tools or machinery.


• Basic metalworking experience, including cutting, grinding, drilling, and preparing metal components.


• Ability to measure, cut, assemble, and finish timber, panel\-based, and metal components accurately.


• Good attention to detail and pride in producing high\-quality work.


• Ability to follow drawings, instructions, and production processes.


• Awareness of safe working practices in a machinery\-based and fabrication environment.


• Good manual handling ability and confidence working with large panels, timber materials, and metal components.


• Reliable, punctual, and able to work well as part of a team.

Nice\-to\-Have Skills and Experience

• Experience using CNC woodworking machinery.


• Experience with edgebanders, spindle moulders, table saws, or similar workshop equipment.


• Previous experience assembling timber enclosures, cabinets, kiosks, furniture, or similar products.


• Carry out basic metalworking tasks, including MIG welding, cutting, grinding, drilling, and preparing metal parts.


• Experience of wet\-coat spray finishing of parts and panels


• Experience in light fabrication or general workshop metalwork.


• Basic electrical or cabling experience, such as installing cables, devices, connectors, or internal components.


• Forklift licence or previous forklift experience.


• Experience working from technical drawings or manufacturing documentation.


• Understanding of quality control checks in a production environment.

Training can be provided where required, including forklift training for the right candidate.
