About the Role
We are looking for an experienced and driven Production Manager to oversee and manage our manufacturing and production operations.
This is a key leadership role responsible for the planning, scheduling, and day\-to\-day management of workshop activities. The successful candidate will bring strong technical knowledge of bespoke manufacture\-to\-order products, together with the leadership skills needed to motivate, engage, and empower a production team.
Quality, on\-time delivery, project compliance, health and safety, and continuous improvement will all be central to this role. You will play an important part in developing processes and procedures that improve efficiency and productivity while maintaining the consistently high build quality expected across the business.
Key Responsibilities
As Production Manager, you will be responsible for:
Leadership and Team Management
- Leading, managing, and mentoring production staff and team leaders.
- Creating a positive, engaged, and motivated workshop environment.
- Supporting staff development, performance, attendance, training, annual leave, discipline, and behaviour.
- Delivering regular team briefs, including updates on performance, KPIs, and operational priorities.
- Working with production planning to implement production plans, schedules, and workflows.
- Ensuring workflow deadlines and quality standards are achieved.
- Monitoring production performance and identifying solutions to operational challenges.
- Working with departmental managers to analyse and improve production processes.
- Driving efficiency, cost reduction, and productivity improvements.
- Supporting lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement activity.
- Working with procurement to ensure materials and equipment are available when required.
- Managing and supporting production department budgets, staffing, overtime, resources, and improvement projects.
- Ensuring products meet required quality standards, including ISO, health and safety, company\-specific, and project\-specific requirements.
- Working with the Quality team to carry out audits and implement corrective actions.
- Encouraging shop floor involvement in identifying and resolving root cause issues.
- Working closely with departments including design, quality, procurement, and senior management.
- Providing regular updates on production performance, challenges, and improvement actions.
- Supporting wider business objectives through clear communication and effective collaboration.
- Ensuring compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
- Promoting adherence to safety protocols, environmental requirements, and industry standards.
- Coordinating safety training and maintaining required records.
The ideal candidate will have:
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Excellent problem\-solving and decision\-making ability.
- Experience in a production, manufacturing, or engineering environment.
- Good knowledge of production planning, workflows, and operational control.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- The ability to work under pressure and meet targets.
- Confidence using production management software and tools.
- A practical, hands\-on approach with a focus on quality, safety, and continuous improvement.
- Education or background in Engineering, Manufacturing, or a related field.
- Ideally a minimum of 5 years’ experience in production management or a similar management role.
- Experience with lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, or similar continuous improvement methodologies.
- Management qualification or training, such as ILM, CMI, or equivalent.
- Experience in the Nuclear, Automotive, or Aerospace sectors would be highly advantageous.
