Procurement Assistant
We are looking for an organised and proactive Procurement Assistant with proven experience in a procurement or supply chain role within the construction industry. The overall remit of the role is to support the senior management and operational teams with the sourcing, ordering, and management of materials, plant, and subcontractors, ensuring projects are delivered on time and within budget.
Reports To: Estimating / Operational Team
Qualifications
- A relevant qualification in procurement, supply chain, business, or construction would be beneficial
- CIPS qualification (or working towards) would be advantageous
- Must be computer literate as appropriate to the role — minimum Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Experience with construction procurement or project management software would be beneficial
- Minimum 3 years' experience in a procurement or buying role, ideally within mechanical, electrical, or construction contracting
- Ability to work independently and as part of a project team
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple purchase orders and enquiries simultaneously
- Strong negotiation skills with a proven ability to achieve best value from suppliers and subcontractors
- Source, compare, and procure materials and plant hire in line with project programmes and budgets
- Manage the full subcontractor procurement process, including issuing enquiries, comparing returns, and placing orders
- Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, subcontractors, and manufacturers
- Ensure all purchase orders are raised accurately and in a timely manner
- Monitor and chase deliveries to ensure materials arrive on site in line with the project programme
- Maintain and develop the approved supplier and subcontractor database, regularly reviewing performance and pricing
- Assist the estimating team with supplier and subcontractor pricing during the tender stage
- Review subcontractor and supplier invoices against agreed order values and flag discrepancies
- Ensure all procurement activity complies with relevant company procedures and industry regulations
- Maintain accurate and up\-to\-date records of all orders, quotes, and correspondence
- Attend project and procurement review meetings as required
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to interpret technical schedules and material specifications
- Perform other duties as assigned by management
