Applications are invited for a Band 8A Principal Radioisotope and Imaging Physicist in the Radioisotope Physics group of the Royal Marsden NHSFT at Sutton in Surrey. The successful candidate will join a team of clinical scientists providing support to the Nuclear Medicine areas of imaging, molecular radiotherapy and radiation safety.

The Nuclear Medicine Department carries out over 18,000 imaging procedures annually over the two Royal Marsden sites (Sutton and Chelsea). At the Sutton branch of the Trust there is one Siemens Biograph VisionX PET/CT and one Siemens Biograph mCT due to be upgraded to Siemens Quadra LAFOV PET/CT. In addition there are two Siemens Intevo SPECT/CT systems. The Chelsea branch is equipped with a Siemens Intevo SPECT/CT and a Siemens Biograph Horizon PET/CT system.

The successful candidate will take a leading role on supporting and optimising the new LAFOV PET service at Sutton but will also be required to support the broader radioisotope physics service at both Sutton and Chelsea sites.

Applicants should hold a postgraduate degree in a relevant subject and will be registered with the UK Health Professionals Council as well as a relevant MPE Certificate of Competence from RPA 2000\. The Sutton branch of the Trust is situated on the edge of the Surrey countryside within a few miles of the M25 and with fast rail links into London. A shuttle bus runs at regular intervals between the two Trust sites.

1\.1\. The post holder is expected to act as a Medical Physics Expert across all areas of nuclear medicine imaging and therapy. They will also contribute to all areas of day\-to\-day physics support services for nuclear medicine.

1\.2\. Further to those responsibilities the post holder is expected to take a leading role in the scientific development of PET\-CT imaging services across both sites. The post holder will also play a major role in ensuring that all activities across the department are carried out within a quality framework.

2\.1\. Act as an operator as required under the ionising radiations (medical exposure) regulations 2017 \[IR(ME)R 2017] for nuclear medicine, radionuclide therapy and isolated limb perfusion procedures.

2\.2\. Participate in the Radioisotopes Physics service to the Nuclear Medicine Department. Provide Medical Physics Expert (MPE) advice to the trust on a range of complex and possibly conflicting scientific and technical issues which impact on patient care.

2\.3\. Provide physics support for highly complex SPECT\-CT and PET\-CT cameras and associated computing and data storage equipment in the Nuclear Medicine department.

2\.4\. Ensure that quality assurance and a quality control programme for all SPECT\-CT and PET\-CT cameras and related equipment are correctly carried out to required guidelines and standards.
