We are looking for an inspiring, organised and child\-centred Preschool Manager to lead our friendly team. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is passionate about early years and committed to creating a warm, nurturing environment where children thrive.
You will lead the day\-to\-day running of the preschool, oversee safeguarding, support staff development, and work closely with our volunteer committee to ensure high\-quality provision.
Hours: Typically up to 24 hours per week, term\-time only although we can be flexible for the right person.
Requirements: Level 3\+ (Level 5 preferred), strong EYFS knowledge, leadership experience Desirable: DSL, Paediatric First Aid, SENCO experience, experience in a committee\-run setting

Job Description
Purpose of the Role
To lead and manage the preschool, ensuring the highest standards of early education, safeguarding, and operational excellence in line with the EYFS, Ofsted requirements, and the preschool’s policies and values.
Key Responsibilities
1\. Leadership \& Management
- Provide clear, confident leadership to staff, modelling best practice.
- Oversee day‑to‑day operations, ensuring smooth running of all sessions.
- Lead staff meetings, supervision, appraisals, and performance management.
- Identify training needs for self and staff members to ensure Continual Professional Development and compliance with statutory requirements
- Foster a positive, inclusive, child‑centred culture.
- Work collaboratively with the committee (as the registered provider) and act as the professional lead.
- Act as Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL)
- Ensure all safeguarding policies and procedures are implemented consistently.
- Maintain accurate safeguarding records and liaise with external agencies (MASH, LADO, health visitors, etc.).
- Ensure staff understand their responsibilities under KCSIE, EYFS, Prevent Duty, and local safeguarding partnership procedures.
- Lead the planning, delivery, and evaluation of a high‑quality EYFS curriculum.
- Ensure teaching is ambitious, inclusive, and developmentally appropriate.
- Monitor children’s progress and ensure effective key‑person practice.
- Act as SENCO and support staff with SEND strategies, behaviour guidance, and early intervention.
- Maintain an engaging, safe, and stimulating learning environment.
- Build strong, professional relationships with parents and carers.
- Provide regular communication about children’s progress and wellbeing.
- Manage settling‑in processes, transitions to school, and family support.
- Represent the preschool positively within the local community, contributing to effective marketing of the setting.
- Ensure compliance with the EYFS, Ofsted, health \& safety, GDPR, and charity governance requirements.
- Maintain accurate records: attendance, accidents, medication, safeguarding, staff training, and children’s files.
- Prepare for Ofsted inspections and lead the setting through the process.
- Oversee admissions, waiting lists, and funding claims.
- Oversee the amendment of policies to reflect the latest EYFS and other legislation and then reviewed with the committee.
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and resource planning.
- Manage staffing rotas and ensure ratios are always met.
- Oversee ordering of resources and equipment.
- Ensure the environment is safe, clean, and well‑maintained.
- Work with the management committee to promote the long\-term success and sustainability of the preschool, proactively identifying issues and opportunities and making changes as appropriate.
Essential
- Level 3 Early Years qualification
- Strong knowledge of the EYFS, safeguarding, SEND Code of Practice, and Ofsted requirements.
- Experience leading a team in an early years setting.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills.
- Ability to build positive relationships with children, families, staff, and the committee.
- Commitment to inclusive practice and continuous improvement.

- Level 4/5 or working towards it
