Location: Contractual Base Location: Balfour Beatty Shotts Office, Edinburgh Road, Shotts. National travel required. Base office location to be agreed.
The PPE Controller is responsible for ensuring the effective supply, management, inspection and compliance of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), fall arrest equipment, tool tethering systems and associated safety equipment across Balfour Beatty's Power Transmission \& Distribution business. The role supports operational excellence by ensuring all employees have access to compliant, fit\-for\-purpose equipment while maintaining accurate records and stock control systems. This role will involve regular travel to operational sites across the UK to carry out inspections, audits and support project teams. Based on the attached PPE Controller role profile.
What you'll be doing
- Ensure the consistent availability of compliant, cost\-effective PPE and safety equipment across the Power T\&D business.
- Manage the ordering, distribution, tracking and stock control of PPE and associated safety products.
- Carry out and document inspections and examinations of fall arrest equipment in line with company and legislative requirements.
- Support operational teams in maintaining the highest standards of safety and compliance.
- Work closely with suppliers, procurement teams and project delivery teams to ensure continuity of supply and product quality.
- Promote best practice in PPE use, maintenance and inspection.
- Manage PPE inventory, stock levels and distribution across multiple sites and projects nationwide.
- Order, receive, issue and record PPE and safety equipment using company systems and stock management processes.
- Conduct planned inspections and examinations of fall arrest equipment, tool tethering systems and associated safety equipment.
- Maintain accurate inspection records and compliance documentation.
- Liaise with project teams to identify PPE requirements and ensure timely provision of equipment.
- Coordinate the introduction, trial and evaluation of new PPE products and safety solutions.
- Work collaboratively with procurement teams and approved suppliers to maintain current product catalogues and specifications.
- Monitor PPE expenditure and identify opportunities for cost savings without compromising safety standards.
- Deliver awareness sessions, toolbox talks and guidance on PPE selection, care and pre\-use inspections.
- Provide advice and support to operational teams on PPE compliance and best practice.
- Assist with wider logistics and operational support activities as required.
Essential Skills \& Experience
- Full UK Driving Licence.
- Experience managing stock, inventory or operational support activities.
- Strong planning and organisational skills with the ability to manage own workload.
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel and Outlook.
- Excellent attention to detail and record\-keeping skills.
- Effective communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Self\-motivated, flexible and proactive approach to work.
- Ability to travel nationally and work independently across multiple locations.
Desirable Skills \& Experience
- Experience working within utilities, construction, infrastructure or the power sector.
- Knowledge of PPE requirements, safety equipment and industry standards.
- Fall Arrest Equipment Inspection qualification.
- Knowledge of Power Transmission \& Distribution operational environments.
- Understanding of Health \& Safety legislation and compliance requirements.
- BESC qualification/card.
- Experience using Oracle or similar stock management systems.
