This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled Full Stack Software Engineer to join our Portfolio Team, providing the critical engineering expertise needed to develop and evolve our internal tools and services.

You’ll play a pivotal role in designing, implementing and maintaining scalable backend systems and supporting the applications that enable decision\-making across the organisation.

Job Overview
----------------

The Portfolio Team drives and influences how Arm’s product strategies come to life.

We are seeking a skilled Full Stack Software Engineer with a strong backend and platform focus to join our team on a contract basis.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience building backend services using Node.js and TypeScript, with a strong understanding of modern software engineering practices, distributed systems and API design.

While this is a full stack role, the primary emphasis is on backend development, system architecture and code quality. Experience with frontend technologies is beneficial but not essential.

The successful candidate should also be comfortable working with AI\-assisted development tools, reviewing both human\-written and AI\-generated code, and contributing to technical discussions around architecture and system design.

Responsibilities
====================

Backend Development


  • Design, develop and maintain scalable backend services using Node.js, TypeScript and modern backend frameworks such as Express.js or similar.

  • Design and implement RESTful APIs and service integrations.

  • Develop maintainable, well\-tested and performant code following engineering best practices.

  • Design data models and work with relational and NoSQL databases where appropriate.

  • Improve application reliability, observability and performance through monitoring, logging and optimisation.

Software Engineering \& Code Quality


  • Write clean, maintainable and well\-documented code following established coding standards.

  • Perform thorough code reviews and provide constructive technical feedback.

  • Review and validate AI\-generated code, ensuring correctness, maintainability, security and adherence to engineering standards.

  • Contribute to improving development workflows, automation and engineering best practices.

System Design \& Collaboration


  • Participate in technical design discussions and contribute to system architecture decisions.

  • Translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions.

  • Collaborate closely with frontend developers, product owners and other engineers to deliver high\-quality software.

  • Contribute to technical documentation and knowledge sharing across the team.

AI \& Engineering Productivity


  • Leverage modern AI\-assisted development tools to improve engineering productivity.

  • Evaluate the suitability of AI\-generated implementations and identify potential issues or improvements.

  • Stay current with emerging AI development tooling and software engineering practices.
Required Skills \& Experience
=================================
  • Strong proficiency in Node.js development using TypeScript and modern JavaScript (ES6\+).

  • Experience designing and implementing RESTful APIs and backend services.

  • Strong understanding of software engineering principles, clean code practices and maintainable application architecture.

  • Experience reviewing and improving code written by other engineers.

  • Familiarity with AI\-assisted software development tools, such as GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, Claude or similar, and the ability to critically assess AI\-generated code.

  • Solid understanding of software architecture and system design concepts.

  • Experience working with relational and/or NoSQL databases.

  • Familiarity with version control systems (Git) and modern development workflows.

  • Strong problem\-solving skills and attention to detail.

  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work in a collaborative, cross\-functional environment.
Nice to Have
================
  • Experience with Python for scripting, automation or backend services.

  • Experience with cloud platforms, such as AWS, Azure or GCP.

  • Knowledge of containerisation technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.

  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.

  • Experience with testing frameworks and automated testing strategies.

  • Experience with Agile methodologies and tools such as JIRA.

  • Prior experience developing internal engineering tools or finance\-related software products.
