About us
------------

We're UCL Advancement: a friendly, collaborative team that brings UCL's alumni and supporters together and builds the philanthropic partnerships that power the university's work. In our bicentennial year we launched Here, it will happen, our biggest campaign yet, uniting some of the world's best researchers with a committed community of donors and alumni to tackle global health, societal, climate and education challenges over the next 200 years.

The campaign is driving a real step\-change in our fundraising, with a goal of securing more than £100m of Advancement\-solicited gifts every year within an overall £1bn\+ philanthropic ambition. We're growing as a result, and it's a great time to join us.

You'll be part of our Health fundraising team, a major gifts team working with individuals and institutions who can give between £100,000 and £5m. Alongside raising income, we build a strong, diverse pipeline of future supporters and work closely with UCL's health faculties to create compelling propositions around the university's priorities in health and medicine.

About the role
------------------

Few things are more rewarding than connecting a donor with research that could change patients' lives. As a Philanthropy Manager in our Health team, you'll do exactly that: building relationships with people who care about health and medicine, and helping them make six\-figure gifts that support UCL's work.

You'll manage your own portfolio of prospects, mostly in the UK and occasionally overseas, and work hand in hand with clinicians, academics and senior UCL colleagues who are passionate about their work.

What you'll be doing
------------------------

  • Looking after a portfolio of prospects who can make gifts of six figures and above.

  • Raising in\-year income for UCL's health faculties, working towards your personal and team targets and other agreed KPIs.

  • Creating tailored cultivation and solicitation plans for five\- and six\-figure gifts, bringing in clinical, academic and senior colleagues at the right moments.

  • Asking for gifts yourself, and planning asks for colleagues where that works best.

  • Writing briefings for senior leaders and academics ahead of donor meetings, and following up afterwards.

  • Building strong partnerships with academics, clinical academics and key staff across UCL's health priorities.

  • Working with our Donor Experience and Philanthropy Writing teams on proposals, stewardship and donor events.

  • Keeping clear, timely records of your activity on our database, and sharing fundraising best practice across UCL.
The role involves some travel within London and the UK, plus the occasional event or meeting outside normal working hours.

We'll also look to you to bring our Ways of Working to life, champion equity, diversity and inclusion, get involved in our culture of learning and development, and support UCL's Sustainability Strategy.

About you
-------------

You're a natural relationship builder who enjoys connecting people with causes they care about. You don't need to have fundraised before: if you've managed high\-value clients or strategic partnerships and hit income targets, your skills will transfer well, and we'll support you to grow. What matters most is that you're a great communicator, you're comfortable with senior people, and you bring warmth, tact and discretion to everything you do.

When you apply: please copy the essential criteria below into your supporting statement and, under each one, tell us how you meet it with an example. We'll score applications against these criteria, so be as specific as you can.

Essential experience and knowledge
--------------------------------------

  • Experience in fundraising, or income\-generating experience involving managing high\-value strategic partnerships.

  • Proven success managing a high\-value, diverse portfolio of donors or clients that includes complex relationships (for example, interests across a large organisation, larger capacity to give, or multiple stakeholders).

  • Experience of working with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, including senior people, ideally in a business or not\-for\-profit environment.

  • Experience of working in a results\-driven environment, with a record of achieving personal KPIs and income targets.
Essential skills and abilities
----------------------------------
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, with a track record of explaining complex information to different audiences.

  • A proven track record of influencing and negotiating.

  • The ability to think strategically over the short, medium and long term and to solve complex problems.

  • The ability to stay calm under pressure and prioritise, with excellent organisation and time management.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with diplomacy, discretion and tact.
It would be great if you also have
--------------------------------------
  • Direct fundraising experience, ideally in a university or charity.

  • First\-hand experience of how philanthropy can transform health and medical research and treatment, and the lives of patients and families.
What we offer
-----------------

Alongside meaningful work that genuinely improves health, we offer:

  • 41 days of holiday (27 days' annual leave, 8 bank holidays and 6 university closure days).

  • Flexible hybrid working, with the option to work remotely for up to 80% of the week.

  • An excellent defined benefit pension scheme.

  • Cycle to work scheme, season ticket loan, on\-site nursery and discounted gym membership.

  • An Employee Assistance Programme, plus staff discounts and plenty of learning and development opportunities.
Our commitment to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion
-------------------------------------------------------

UCL is proud to have a diverse staff and student community. We particularly welcome applications from all sections of the community, regardless of age, disability, gender, gender identity or expression, race, religion or belief, or sexual orientation. We are committed to fostering an inclusive culture that promotes equality, values diversity and maintains an inclusive environment for all.
