Personal Assistants (Support Workers) have the most important role within Enable by making a positive difference every day to the lives of the people we support. No two days are the same for our Personal Assistants but what we can guarantee is that you will be supporting someone with a learning disability to achieve their goals and outcomes – whatever they may be!

Each person we support has different support needs, so your role as Support Worker may include assisting them with various aspects of personal care, moving and handling or positive behavioural support whilst expanding their social networks and connections.

Enable creates a bespoke team around every individual we support, and our team of Personal Assistants work collaboratively to ensure the safety, wellbeing and aspirations of the people we support are met.

The people we support have many varied interests and hobbies and have many of the same dreams and aspirations as we do; they just too often do not get the opportunity to experience these same opportunities. Let us introduce you to Ben:

Ben lives in his own home and receives support with most aspects of daily living. Ben is very active and loves being out going for nature walks where he splashes in puddles and enjoys the ever\-changing landscape. Ben also enjoys trampolining, going to the gym and going cycling.

A typical day could be supporting Ben with personal tasks within his home, maintaining his house and garden, going for a walk in the countryside or going for a leisurely drive. Ben also loves to spend time with his family who he is very close to.

For Ben, structure and routine is important \- it would be beneficial if you have an understanding of Autism. Ben likes his team to be calm and it's preferable that they enjoy the same activities that he does. He also likes people around him who have a good sense of humour.

Ben is non\-verbal and relies on visual aids to communicate his needs and wishes.

It's not always possible for Ben to enjoy what many people would consider ‘simple pleasures’ without proper, dedicated support.
