Job Title: Personal Assistant / Carer

Location: Private home in Homerton, E9, London

Pay Rate: £17\.00 – £20\.00 per hour

Employment Type: Flexible, can be PAYE or self\-employment

Hours: Part\-time. To begin with, 6\-9 hours per week over 2\-3 shifts. Within a few months, we hope to increase to 12\-16 hours per week over 3\-4 shifts, and prefer a candidate who expects to have flexibility to do this. Shifts will typically start between 2pm and 5pm and finish between 5pm and 9pm. Shifts can be arranged week to week or be on a regular schedule, though some degree of flexibility will be required.

Start Date: Ideally by the end of September, though we are willing to wait for the right candidate.

About the Role

A Personal Assistant / Carer is required to support two autistic young adults managing chronic health conditions, including myalgic encephelomyelitis (ME), POTS, hEDS, fibromyalgia and Tourette's. Most days are spent resting in bed, so support is needed in maintaining nutrition, hygiene and daily routines within a quiet, low\-light home environment. Physical lifting or hoisting is not required. Wheelchairs, both manual and powered, and mobility scooters, are used inside and outside of the flat.

Key Responsibilities

  • Meal Preparation: Preparing home\-cooked meals and ready meals, snacks and electrolyte hydration drinks.

  • Medication Support: Prompting routine medications and filling pill boxes. Preparing specialist prescribed medication (including preparing doses into capsules and maintaining administration equipment), tracking stock, and prompting usage.

  • Personal Care: Assisting with bathing, dressing, shaving, hair brushing, hair washing.

  • Domestic Duties: Washing up, using the dishwasher, placing and receiving grocery orders, laundry, bed making, general tidying, taking bins out, maintaining clear pathways for wheelchair accessibility, and light cleaning.

  • Outings: Assisting with preparations to go out (clothing, shoes, blankets, water bottles etc).

  • Admin \& Advocacy: Making phone calls, help with general admin including medical admin, attending medical appointments to assist with communication.

  • Pet Care: Assisting with cat care, and helping care for pet rats in future.

  • Mobility Aids: Assisting with cleaning and maintaining wheelchairs and mobility scooters.
Requirements
  • Gender: Restricted to female applicants under Schedule 9 of the Equality Act 2010 due to the nature of the role, particularly personal care. Applications from trans women and non\-binary people are welcomed.

  • Personal Qualities: Patient, friendly, good sense of humor, professional without being too serious, respectful of queer and alternative identities, animal\-tolerant (ideally animal\-loving!).

  • Environment: Able to work in low\-light settings and speak quietly due to light and sound sensitivities.

  • Understanding: Willingness to learn about our health conditions and respect our boundaries and limitations.

  • Flexibility: Willingness to adapt to occasional shift variations.
Desirable
  • Experience with or knowledge of ME, autism, or PDA.

  • Someone who cycles.

  • Interest in arts and crafts.

  • DIY, engineering or mechanical skills.

  • Love for animals.
Pay: £17\.00\-£20\.00 per hour

Expected hours: 6\.0 – 16\.0 per week
