Our Development Coaches play a critical role in the learning and training of our new starters. This role will enable you to demonstrate and develop your coaching and leadership skills. You will be responsible for helping new starters deliver excellent administrative support and customer service to service users, mediators, judiciary, and management.

About us

HM Courts \& Tribunals Service (HMCTS) is an agency of the Ministry of Justice responsible for the administration of criminal, civil and family Courts and Tribunals in England and Wales. Our roles support our service users and colleagues within HMCTS, w people and businesses access potentially life\-changing justice.

Spread nationally over several sites, our Courts and Tribunal Service Centres CTSCs deliver services through several jurisdictions known as ‘service lines’. These include Social Service \& Child Support, Family Public Law, Probate, Crime, Immigration \& Asylum, Divorce, Online Civil Money Claims, the Single Justice Service (non\-imprisonable offences e.g., no TV license / car tax), and supporting audio video hearings.

Your role

This role will be responsible for the ongoing onboarding training that new members of staff receive, or that staff need when moving to new duties, ensuring they develop and demonstrate the skills and knowledge to deliver an inclusive and accessible service to diverse users. The role will focus on the short to medium term needs of the learners.

Your skills and experience

  • Provide Leadership to the learners, visibly demonstrating and embedding the culture and ways of working for National Services in delivering service excellence across all jurisdictions.

  • Business\-specific knowledge and experience to be able to coach and advise learners on improvement in specific business areas.

  • CIPD or internal qualification in coaching and training practice (desirable).

  • People and communication skills to be able to coach learners in increasing effectiveness in handling customer/user queries by telephone, email or webchat (etc.)

  • Ability to judge capability, competence and potential in learners and adapt approach for different learners to ensure best learning environment.

  • Knowledge of learning resources and solutions to recommend to learners.
Coaching skills to be able to help learners understand and take responsibility for their own development, to support them in doing so and to provide guidance w* necessary.

Knowledge of HMCTS and National Services service standards to be able to measure learner’s performance against these and provide support to improve w* needed.

  • Flexibility and adaptability in working to tailor coaching style to learners needs while still meeting business requirements.

  • Resilience and authority to be able to manage learners effectively, sometimes in challenging situations.

New recruits to the Civil Service joining MoJ are expected to join at the band minimum.

Ways of working

The office is open Monday to Friday from 07:30 to 18:00\. Standard full time working hours are 37 hours per week. T is an expectation that you can be flexible with your working hours to accommodate the needs of the business.

Due to the nature of the Development Coach role and business requirements, successful candidates will be required to work full\-time. These roles are office‑based, with the possibility of occasional, non‑contractual working from home days.

Training

External applicants will be required to complete a service line training academy.

Occasional travel to other courts

For this post, occasional travel to other National Services sites may be required.

Skilled Worker Visa

This role is not eligible for new Skilled Worker visas in accordance with the current immigration rules.

Working Arrangements \& Further Information

The MoJ offers Hybrid Working arrangements w business need allows. This is an informal, non\-contractual form of flexible working that blends working from your base location, different MoJ sites and / or from home (please be aware that this role can only be worked in the UK and not overseas). All employees will be expected to spend a minimum of 60% of their working time in an office, subject to local estate capacity.

Some roles will not be suitable for Hybrid Working. Similarly, Hybrid Working will not suit everyone’s circumstances. Arrangements will be discussed and agreed with the successful candidate(s) and subject to regular review.

For nationally advertised role: all successful candidates will be appointed to the nearest viable office nearest to their home postcode and on its respective pay scale. This will be at either a HQ building (subject to desk allocation, a Justice Collaboration Centre (JCC) or a Justice Satellite Office (JSO) – See Map. All employees will be expected to spend a minimum of 60% of their working time in an office, subject to local estate capacity).

For current MoJ employees, your base location will need to be changed to the nearest viable office (to your home postcode), either at a HQ building, JCC or JSO within the National Office Network and moved its location’s respective pay scale (any legacy arrangements/locations will need to be amended).

Some of MoJ’s terms and conditions of service are changing as part of Civil Service reform. The changes will apply to staff joining MoJ who are new to the Civil Service. Staff joining MoJ from other civil service employers will transfer onto the new MoJ terms if they are already on 'modernised' terms in their current post or onto 'unmodernised' MoJ terms if they are on 'unmodernised' terms at their current post. Details will be available if an offer is made.

MoJ candidates who are on a specialist grade, will be able to retain their grade on lateral transfer.

All candidates who are currently in receipt of Mark Time / Pay Protection should ensure they are familiar with the new policy on permanent and temporary promotion which can be found on the employee intranet.

Flexible working hours

The Ministry of Justice offers a flexible working system in many offices. Standard full time working hours are 37 hours per week. Annual Leave

Annual leave is 25 days on appointment and will increase to 30 days after five years’ service.
