We are seeking an experienced, proactive, and professional People Advisor (HR Advisor) for a 12\- 14 month fixed term contract (covering Maternity Leave) to lead the day\-to\-day delivery of Human Resources within our school. This is a key role providing operational HR support and expert advice to senior leaders, managers, and staff, ensuring HR practices are effective, compliant, and aligned with the school's values and objectives.

The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting all aspects of the employee lifecycle, including recruitment, employee relations, HR compliance, payroll administration, wellbeing initiatives, and workforce reporting. They will act as the school's first point of contact for HR matters, ensuring a professional, supportive, and legally compliant service at all times.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the day\-to\-day operation of the school's HR function and support a positive workplace culture.

  • Provide advice and guidance to managers and employees on HR matters, including absence management, disciplinary, grievance, capability, performance, and wellbeing issues.

  • Manage the full recruitment lifecycle, including advertising vacancies, shortlisting, interviewing, pre\-employment checks, and onboarding.

  • Ensure compliance with employment legislation, safeguarding requirements, Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE), GDPR, and safer recruitment practices.

  • Maintain and oversee the school's Single Central Record (SCR), ensuring accuracy and compliance.

  • Coordinate and maintain HR policies and procedures, ensuring they remain up to date with legislation and best practice.

  • Manage HR systems, personnel records, and employee data, ensuring confidentiality and accuracy.

  • Support the preparation and submission of payroll information, including new starters, leavers, overtime, and deductions.

  • Produce HR reports, workforce data, and management information to support decision\-making and compliance monitoring.

  • Support the appraisal and performance management process.

  • Maintain oversight of staff training records and mandatory compliance training.

  • Promote staff wellbeing initiatives and coordinate occupational health referrals and reasonable adjustments where required.

  • Work collaboratively with senior leaders to identify HR risks, trends, and workforce development opportunities.
Person Specification

Essential

  • CIPD Level 5 qualification, or equivalent HR experience.

  • Proven experience within a generalist HR Advisor, HR Officer, or People Advisor role.

  • Strong knowledge of UK employment law and HR best practice.

  • Experience managing employee relations cases, including absence, disciplinary, grievance, and capability matters.

  • Experience managing recruitment and onboarding processes.

  • Excellent organisational, communication, and record\-keeping skills.

  • Ability to work confidentially, professionally, and with integrity.

  • Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Office and HR management systems.

  • Ability to analyse HR data and provide meaningful reports and recommendations.

  • Ability to build positive working relationships across all levels of the organisation.
Desirable
  • Experience working within a school, education, or independent school setting.

  • Experience maintaining a Single Central Record (SCR).

  • Knowledge of Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) requirements.

  • Safer Recruitment training.

  • Experience using BrightHR or similar HR systems.

  • Experience supporting payroll administration.

  • Knowledge of education sector terms and conditions.
