Partner – Private Client Tax

Location: City of London

Working pattern: Hybrid

Employment type: Permanent, full time

Private client advisory. Strategic influence. A genuine platform for growth.

You’re an experienced Private Client Tax adviser with a strong advisory background, an established professional profile and a track record of developing new business.

At this stage in your career, the next move has to offer more than a title. It needs to give you the platform, support and autonomy to build something meaningful.

This is an opportunity to join a growing Private Client Tax team within a highly regarded advisory, tax and audit firm. The role would suit a Partner, or a senior adviser ready for a Partner-level move, who wants to play a visible role in shaping the future of a private client offering.

You’ll act as lead adviser to a broad portfolio of clients, providing commercial, technically sound advice across a wide range of private client tax matters. You’ll also take a key role in developing the team’s market presence, identifying new business opportunities, building referral relationships and helping shape the strategy, reputation and profitability of the private client tax practice.

This is not a maintenance role. It’s a role for someone who enjoys client ownership, commercial growth, technical depth and practice leadership.

What the role looks like

You’ll lead client relationships, taking full ownership of service delivery, commercial fees, expectations, billing and the quality of advice provided.

The client work will be broad and advisory-led, requiring someone with deep UK private client tax knowledge and the confidence to advise on complex issues. You’ll oversee personal tax compliance services, but the real focus is on high-quality advisory work, strategic client relationships and adding value beyond annual compliance.

Alongside client delivery, you’ll play an active role in business development. You’ll identify opportunities to win new work, build and maintain referral networks, contribute to marketing activity and help raise the profile of the private client offering both internally and externally.

You’ll also have a clear leadership role within the team, supporting operational decisions, service propositions, recruitment, training and the development of junior and senior colleagues.

What you’ll be doing

  • Acting as lead adviser to a broad portfolio of private clients

  • Providing commercial and technically sound advice across UK private client tax matters

  • Overseeing personal tax compliance services

  • Managing risk in line with regulatory, ethical and professional standards

  • Taking full ownership of client relationships, including fees, expectations, delivery and billing

  • Assembling and leading the right team around each client’s needs

  • Identifying new business opportunities and developing strategies to win work

  • Building and maintaining a strong referral network

  • Spotting cross-selling opportunities across the existing client base

  • Helping market and develop the private client tax offering

  • Contributing to client publications, technical content, events and wider profile-building activity

  • Supporting team strategy, operational decisions and service development

  • Providing training, guidance and support to the wider team

  • Supporting recruitment, resourcing, productivity and utilisation

  • Producing technical material for internal and external use

  • Representing the firm in technical discussions, panels or industry forums where appropriate

Who we’re looking for

This role will suit a Chartered Tax Adviser with significant private client tax experience, ideally gained within a professional services environment.

You’ll bring broad and deep knowledge of UK private client tax law and practice, together with a proven ability to produce bespoke technical advice for complex client situations.

Just as importantly, you’ll be commercially minded. You’ll know how to build relationships, develop opportunities, win trust and turn technical expertise into practical, valuable advice for clients.

You’ll also need strong leadership skills. The right person will enjoy developing people, shaping strategy and contributing to the long-term growth of a team, not just delivering their own client work.

Particularly strong fits will have:

  • CTA qualification

  • Significant UK private client tax advisory experience

  • Experience gained within a professional services firm

  • A strong track record of producing bespoke technical tax advice

  • A visible profile within the tax profession

  • Experience writing articles, presentations or technical material for different audiences

  • A good understanding of tax technology

  • Strong people leadership and team development experience

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • A proven ability to build rapport with clients, referrers and colleagues

  • A creative, entrepreneurial and strategic approach

  • The ability to take ownership and drive work through to completion

Why this role?

This is a senior opportunity for a Private Client Tax specialist who wants to combine technical advisory work, client leadership and practice growth.

You’ll be joining a collaborative, ambitious firm with a strong focus on people, development and long-term career success. The environment is supportive but commercially focused, giving you the scope to make decisions, influence strategy and help shape the direction of the private client tax offering.

There is also a strong emphasis on flexible working, inclusion, mentoring, professional development and creating a workplace where people are supported to perform at their best.

The wider benefits package includes flexible benefits, family-friendly support, volunteering leave, the option to buy and sell annual leave, flexible bank holidays, wellbeing initiatives, employee communities and regular social events.

For a Private Client Tax adviser who wants a Partner-level platform with room to lead, grow and make a visible impact, this is a compelling next step.
