Part Time Personal Assistant/Carer/Housekeeper/Home Help - Colchester CO3
Hours Per Week: 12 hours: pattern of working: Monday, Wednesday \& Thursday 13:00\-17:00\. Flexibility helpful including occasional weekend work.
Location: Colchester (CO3\)
Description: I am a lady in my 30s who has a chronic condition which affects my mobility and wellbeing, and causes severe chronic pain and fatigue. I use an electric wheelchair or mobilise with the use of a walking stick.
I am looking for someone to support me where needed and help with tasks I am unable to manage independently. I am not looking for someone to ‘look after’ me, but to work alongside me to help keep life running smoothly and enable me to remain independent.
It's a really nice role for the right person with quite a variety of tasks and activities throughout the year.
It is important to me that you are flexible, punctual and have a warm, caring personality, and can be empathetic and easy to talk to. I do have cats in the home. I operate a no\-smoking policy.
Due to Motability car insurance restrictions, the candidate must be over 25 to be insured on my specific car. This is a requirement as I am unable to change insurance, and driving is a major part of the role.
This role can be quite physically demanding at times. You must be comfortable carrying out practical tasks, lifting and moving fairly heavy boxes, handling wheelchair equipment (not lifting), helping set up tables and transport items where needed, and assist with packing and moving tasks as I expect to move house within the next year.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Household support including cleaning, laundry, changing bedding, hoovering, tidying, and general housekeeping.
- To provide practical daily living support related to my condition where needed.
- Occasional meal preparation and kitchen support.
- Medication prompting and monitoring.
- Supporting me to access the community, including attending medical appointments, shopping trips or assistance to visit friends/family.
- You will need a full clean driving licence as you will need to drive my Motability car (automatic).
- Loading and unloading the wheelchair from the vehicle using a ramp.
- Support me with my hobbies, interests, voluntary work and related activities.
- You must be able to lift and carry fairly heavy boxes on occasion and carry out physical tasks that I am unable to.
- Assisting with craft work, including lifting boxes and equipment, helping at workshops, and supporting practical elements of projects. An interest in arts or crafts would be a bonus. A background in sales may also be helpful.
- Helping at and attending craft fairs, fetes, and similar events. Availability to attend occasional events with notice is required.
- Running errands as needed e.g. shopping, taking items to the Post Office and collecting medication.
- Someone resourceful, organised, creative and practical would be helpful with good common sense.
