Job Description

We are looking for a proactive and detail\-focused Packing Machine Operator / Packing Line Lead to operate and oversee a packing machine within our warehouse and production area.

The role involves ensuring the machine is set up, operated, and shut down correctly, while maintaining high standards of quality, productivity, health and safety, and housekeeping.

You will also help lead the packing line, ensuring team members are working safely, efficiently, and following the correct processes. This is a practical, hands\-on role suited to someone who enjoys working in a warehouse or production environment and can take responsibility for keeping a line running smoothly.

This role does not require engineering experience, but basic mechanical awareness and the ability to identify and report issues early would be beneficial.

Key ResponsibilitiesMachine Operation

  • Operate the packing machine in line with company SOPs and health and safety guidelines.

  • Ensure the correct setup, use, and shutdown of the packing machine.

  • Carry out routine checks to support safe and efficient machine performance.

  • Monitor the machine during operation to identify faults, jams, or performance issues early.

  • Carry out basic troubleshooting where appropriate.

  • Escalate machine faults promptly to the Warehouse Team Leader or Operations Manager.

  • Help maximise machine uptime, efficiency, and output.

  • Minimise downtime, waste, and avoidable errors.
Quality Control
  • Ensure all products are packed to the correct company and customer standards.

  • Complete quality checks accurately and consistently.

  • Monitor product quality throughout the packing process.

  • Take corrective action where quality issues are identified.

  • Report repeated quality issues or process concerns to management.

  • Ensure production records and quality documentation are completed correctly.
Line Leadership
  • Lead the packing line and help ensure team members are working effectively.

  • Support operators with day\-to\-day guidance and on\-the\-job training.

  • Ensure team members follow correct processes, safety rules, and quality standards.

  • Cascade training updates, process changes, and procedural instructions to the team.

  • Help maintain good communication between warehouse staff, team leaders, and management.

  • Support a positive, productive, and organised working environment.
Health, Safety and Housekeeping
  • Follow all health and safety procedures, risk assessments, and safe systems of work.

  • Maintain a clean, organised, and safe working area around the packing machine.

  • Ensure materials, tools, packaging, and products are kept in the correct locations.

  • Report hazards, unsafe practices, damaged equipment, or near misses promptly.

  • Support warehouse housekeeping and audit standards.
Process Improvement
  • Work with warehouse and management teams to improve productivity and workflow.

  • Highlight recurring machine, quality, or process issues.

  • Suggest practical improvements to reduce downtime, errors, and waste.

  • Support the smooth running of daily warehouse and production activity.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Previous experience operating packing, production, or warehouse machinery, preferred but not essential.

  • Experience working in a warehouse, fulfilment, e\-commerce, retail, or production environment.

  • A strong understanding of health and safety in a warehouse or production setting.

  • Good attention to detail, especially around product quality and accuracy.

  • Basic mechanical awareness and confidence identifying simple faults.

  • The ability to lead, guide, and support a small team.

  • Strong communication skills.

  • A practical, hands\-on approach to problem solving.

  • The ability to work under pressure and meet productivity targets.

  • A reliable, punctual, and positive attitude.

  • Willingness to learn new processes and support continuous improvement.

Working Hours

Shift patterns may vary and can fall within operating hours between 6:00am and 10:00pm, Sunday to Friday.

You will be required to work 5 out of 7 days per week.

Candidates must be able to reliably commute to Northampton, NN7 3LB.

Experience

  • Warehouse experience: 1 year preferred

  • Packing machine or production machine experience: preferred but not essential

  • Line leading or team support experience: preferred but not essential
Licence / Certification
  • Driving Licence: preferred

  • Forklift, pallet truck, or warehouse equipment experience: desirable but not essential
Work Authorisation
  • United Kingdom work authorisation required
