OVERNIGHT NIGHT PORTER \- PERMANENT
Cumberland Lodge, based in Windsor Great Park, is an educational charity that exists to provide young people with the skills, perspective, and confidence to question, challenge, and understand, some of the most complex social issues of our time. Our work currently centres around ethical leadership and developing democratic engagement.
Our charitable work is supported by income from hiring out our stunning facilities for residential and non\-residential conferences, meetings, training courses, and special events.
The Night Porters are responsible for seeing that the needs and security of the guests are met during the night whilst ensuring the Lodge is safe and secure and to deal with any emergencies that arise.
Job description
Reports to: Night Porter Supervisor
Functional relationships with: Hospitality Director, Duty Managers, Dining Room Supervisor.
Duties:
- To ensure the safety and security of guests, staff and premises during the night, and to deal with any emergencies that arise.
- Receive a detailed handover from the Duty Manager at the start of each shift, reviewing conference and meeting room set up/breakdowns, operational updates, guest requirements, outstanding tasks, maintenance issues, and any special instructions to ensure continuity of service.
- To assist the bar staff with service at busy times when cover is required and to provide a late bar service ensuring the bar takings and group tabs are recorded and accounted for accurately. Assisting with restocking and cleaning of the bar whilst closed.
- To follow the Night porter’s list of duties and weekly cleaning check sheet to ensure cleaning schedules are kept on top of and standards kept high therefore areas not being missed. This must be carried out without disturbing guests. Includes a thorough nightly clean of all washrooms.
- To deal with any laundry requirements left by the housekeeping team including stripping beds and occasionally washing \& drying of bedding, towels to be laundered nightly without disturbing guests.
- Conduct a thorough handover with the Duty Manager at the end of each shift, ensuring all assigned duties have been completed, outstanding issues are communicated, and relevant information is accurately recorded for the next shift if needed.
- To assist the dining room team with clearing down and setting up for breakfast, where necessary, at times when additional support from other teams is required.
- To operate in accordance with Cumberland Lodge’s health and safety procedures and policies at all times.
- Monitor the security of the premises throughout the night, including regular patrols, observation of CCTV systems, and reporting or responding appropriately to any security concerns, incidents, or suspicious activity.
- To be responsible for the fire panel control and leading evacuations if necessary.
- When possible, attend staff meetings and co\-ordinate with other departments to ensure we can deliver our charitable mission.
- To perform such other duties as may be reasonably required.
Person specification
Essential
- Reliable, punctual, and trustworthy, with a strong sense of responsibility.
- Enthusiastic, proactive, and hardworking individual with a can\- do attitude
- Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact professionally with guests, colleagues, and contractors.
- High standards and attention to detail
- Able to perform the demanding physical tasks of a Night Porter role; to reach, squat, bend and lift heavy items.
- Experience of working night shifts.
- Previous experience in a hospitality, hotel, customer service, security, or facilities role.
- Knowledge of fire safety procedures and emergency evacuation processes.
- First Aid / Safeguarding qualifications or willingness to undertake training.
- Understanding of hotel or conference venue operations.
Working Pattern: Week 1 Monday to Wednesday \- 9pm to 7am (30 hours)
Week 2 Monday to Thursday \- 9pm to 7am (40 hours)
Flexibility is essential around business requirements as is the ability to cover weekend annual leave (with notice)
Annual Leave: 33 days including statutory Bank Holidays. The Charity is closed for one week over the Christmas period which will be deducted from the leave allocation.
The successful candidate must have access to a vehicle, as Cumberland Lodge is located remotely in Windsor Great Park without easy access by public transport.
