HBD Jewellery is a growing personalised jewellery business based in Sheffield. We manufacture and dispatch made\-to\-order jewellery directly to customers across the UK and overseas.

We are looking for an experienced Operations \& Production Manager to take responsibility for the day\-to\-day running of our production operation.

You will manage the production team, plan staffing and capacity, monitor performance, improve systems and make sure orders are produced and dispatched on time.

This is a hands\-on role for someone who is comfortable managing people, working with numbers and solving operational problems.

Main responsibilities

  • Manage the day\-to\-day production operation and production team

  • Take ownership of improving existing systems and introducing new processes where needed

  • Plan staffing and production capacity based on order volumes, forecasts and backlog

  • Manage rotas, holidays, sickness and additional/flexible staffing

  • Monitor daily output, productivity and labour requirements

  • Allocate staff between production areas and deal with bottlenecks

  • Ensure orders are produced and dispatched within required timescales

  • Manage staff performance, training and development

  • Monitor quality, mistakes, remakes and rework

  • Develop and maintain SOPs and working procedures

  • Track production KPIs and use them to improve productivity, labour efficiency and service

  • Plan staffing and capacity for seasonal peaks, particularly Christmas

  • Ensure materials and stock required for production are available when needed

  • Deal with day\-to\-day operational issues including machinery, couriers, staff shortages and production delays

  • Handle customer\-service escalations where a management decision is required, including refunds, replacements, remakes and exceptions

  • Identify recurring customer or operational issues and put improvements in place

  • Support the introduction of new products and production processes

  • Assist with website and ecommerce tasks where they affect production, fulfilment or customer experience

  • Test and help implement operational changes before they are rolled out

  • Maintain appropriate production records, operational paperwork and compliance requirements

  • Ensure production areas are operated safely and appropriate health \& safety procedures are followed

  • Work with the directors to improve productivity, processes and the overall operation

  • Be proactive in identifying better ways of working rather than simply maintaining existing processes
Experience required

Previous experience managing staff within a production, manufacturing, fulfilment, warehouse or similar operational environment is essential.

We are looking for someone with:

  • Strong people\-management experience

  • Experience planning staffing, workloads or production capacity

  • Good numerical and problem\-solving ability

  • Confidence using Excel, Google Sheets or similar

  • Experience working with operational KPIs

  • Experience dealing with staff performance and day\-to\-day people issues

  • A practical, hands\-on management style

  • Confidence making decisions without needing constant direction

  • Strong communication and organisational skills

  • The ability to spot problems early and take action
Desirable

Experience in any of the following would be useful but is not essential:

  • Ecommerce or online retail

  • Personalised or made to order products

  • Shopify

  • Jewellery, fashion or consumer products

  • Buying or merchandising

  • Lean manufacturing or continuous improvement

  • Introducing new operational systems or automation
Hours

Monday to Friday, 9\.00am–5\.00pm

Some additional flexibility may be required during busy seasonal periods.

Salary

£40,000–£45,000 per year, depending on experience, plus performance\-related bonus.

The bonus will be linked to agreed operational and company targets, likely including areas such as on\-time dispatch, productivity, labour efficiency, quality and operational improvements.

We manufacture made to order jewellery from our Sheffield operation and have grown significantly over recent years.

We are continuing to invest in our people, machinery, systems, technology and products, and are looking for someone who can take real ownership of the operation and help us improve how it runs as we grow.
